Natasha/James (I am here to be a bother.)
There was something to be said about being obvious. Usually those things were that it was tacky and that people should show some restraint, but those were not the people that James was ever likely to care about.
Going to a refugee work related party was not something that he really wanted to do, but once Natasha'd said she was going and that there was half a chance that she might be open to seeing him more than once in a while, well, these things couldn't be helped. He watched from his side of the room on the wall with an excited smile that he was trying to stamp out before going over to meet her. She looked so polished and soft standing in the glow-y magic light that'd been put, like the actual stars got pulled down to light around her face.
What a fucking ridiculous thought to have while he was trying to be normal. Act normal, he kept telling himself as he crossed the room, over and over and pointing out that if he got too.. if he did that thing where he just talked, it might be overwhelming again and the next time might be the last time. These were the last thoughts that were rattling around in his head by the time he finally was maybe five feet away from Natasha, between a couple of people who were grabbing some of the sparkling wine and debating if they were going to go dance or not. Putting forth his best apologetic smile, "lemme just, yeah no you should go dance, everybody's always worried about being the first ones out, but once it happens it's not a thing," in passing, smiling as he cut through the both of them, and watched one of the young women take the other's hand and drag her out off center of the middle of the room and started dancing.
Coming up to standing next to her, standing shoulder to, well almost shoulder, James tried to hide the amusement that was written all over his face, "you look good," his voice a little gruff over the music, "you hit a growth spurt when I wasn't looking," teasing her gently as he turned, facing Natasha properly to take in what she was wearing and how soft her hair looked, the slope of her shoulders and everything else.
