lily & harry potter
April 9th | Harry's Flat | PG-ish? TBD
⚠ likely talk of character death, will update

Lily had wanted to see Harry from the moment James had told her their son was here. She'd sat patiently through his explanations about their futures, about the version of their son that did exist here, all of it. Naturally, Lily had been quite emotional through it all, but she'd also held firm to her conviction that Harry was what mattered. If she and James weren't meant to make it out of the war, she needed her son to survive and to thrive and not just because he might be the chosen one to defeat Voldemort once and for all.

There had still be tears, of course, and she had needed a little time to collect herself. She'd needed the comfort of being with James for a little while, but it didn't take long for that need to see Harry to emerge once more or for her to seek him out. As difficult as it was to wrap her mind around the boy who she'd just held in her arms as an infant hours before now being a grown man, she was desperate to see him, to meet the man her little boy had become and assure herself that he truly was all right. It wasn't that she didn't believe her husband, of course. She just needed to see it with her own eyes, too.

Harry, grown as he was, was a busy man with a very important job, which meant it did take some doing to manage a little time with him. Finally, there was an assurance that he would be at the flat he shared with his friends and she made her way there from the one she and James had been assigned, smoothing an invisible wrinkle with one hand as the other lifted to knock on the door.

Harry, meanwhile, was doing his best not to act awkward or overly nervous. He walked to the kitchen to start making tea, pulling down the sugar and the bags, and setting on the kettle. All the while, he snuck peaks toward his mother and offered her a faint smile.

When the water was finally warming, he turned back to her, studying her and staring before shaking his head. "I'm sorry, I just...um, what has James- I mean, my father said?" What did she know about her future? His stomach turned, not wanting to be the one to have to tell her their fates. Then again, the Ministry had never given them exact directions for this, either.

Lily returned each of those smiles, amazed by the sight of her very grown son bustling around the kitchen to make them tea. It was an incredible sight, if a little surreal.

"He told me everything, Harry." Lily was still processing everything her husband had told her and it had been a difficult conversation, but she was glad he'd told her and even more grateful that her son hadn't needed to be the one to do it. It was enough that he'd had to live through it.

"I'm so sorry we weren't there for you, love."

Those eyes. Lily wasn't the only one staring at the surreal image of her own eyes staring back at her. Harry had stared into his mother's face countless times growing up- but always through a photograph. This was very different.

When she confirmed what she knew, it was as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. One less responsibility. He just nodded a bit sadly and stared down at his teacup as he prepared it.

"It's not your fault, right?" He looked at her again and smiled sadly. "You did everything you could. You saved my life. Twice."
