The person leaving really was the best outcome, given the way Heather had reacted. Not that he could blame her for being thrown by the action. It wasn't hard to know why people did things like that, but what possessed them to think it was in any way okay to just go and grab another person like that was beyond him.
He lowered his hand when she didn't seem inclined to take it, though he let her have her way as she moved closer. It spoke a lot of the things he'd seen over the last few years that having her lean in and smell him barely had him raising an eyebrow. The most astounding thing was probably her height. He was hardly short, and yet she was towering over him.
At her question, he couldn't help the startled laugh. "There's a first. I don't think I've ever been described as a knock-off of myself before." He tilted his head slightly, considering. "Though I guess if there's another me where you're from, to you that's what I am."
