He watched her; it physically hurt him to see her so worried and uncertain. He only wanted to make her happy yet the only thing he seemed capable of at the moment was to come over here again and again with worse news every time. He nodded slowly and slid a hand down her back, stroking gently. "I know. I don't understand why but I know that you love me." He gave her a small smile. "And I want you to know it too. That I love you, and no matter what the future brings, I'll always be thinking of you. You'll always be in my heart." He looked at her with an almost sappy expression and let out a laugh. "I never thought I'd actually hear myself say things like that. But I mean them. You're... always with me, no matter where I am."
At her next words, he actually blinked and watched her with an incredulous frown. "What do you have to offer me? Are you kidding?" He cupped her cheek and tilted her chin up, forcing her to look into his eyes. "You offer me everything. You're all I need, these days, Tonks. We may come from very different worlds, and to others it may seem like a relationship like ours is never going to work. But I know that it is going to work. I love you, and you love me, and that's all we'll need." He paused. "All my life I've thought I had everything I need. A beautiful wife, money, pure blood; but look where it got me. I'm starting to think that I don't belong in that world. I doubt that I ever really belonged in it. Of course, I do enjoy living in luxury and we wouldn't even have to give that up. But I'll gladly live without those stiff events people expect me to go to, and more and more, I'm starting to realise that I don't need Bellatrix anymore either. I used to think she was The One, but now that I've met you... I know she isn't. So to answer your question - everything. You offer me a life I never had the opportunity to experience. You give me... you. To wake up next to you every morning, to see your smile, to just... be with you every day; that's all I want, even... even if it's only for a short time. I want it. And we will have it, if we can find a way to get rid of Him."
He looked into her eyes, hoping she believed him because he was telling the truth. He cupped her cheek and brushed his lips over hers again. "I love you, Nymphadora," he whispered, grinning against her lips and biting her lower lip teasingly. "More than you can possibly imagine."
