"No, it's not inappropriate. It's better if people understand."
If he was going to educate on the subject, he ought to get used to talking about such things.
"If you break it down in terms of pure anatomical function, you basically endure a heart attack, having every bone in your body broken and shifted, and re-arraigning your organs. There is a point where the strain is so great that any normal body couldn't take it. The wolf can get over it fairly quickly...endorphins kick in. But when I change back, when I'm human again, I have to sleep a solid day just to recover from it, and that's not counting any injuries or illness. It's so draining that I become susceptible to all sorts of fun things."
He sighed.
"I know it sounds horrific, and it is, but I'm just trying not to romanticize it. When Sirius and James found out, they thought it was pretty cool, but it only took seeing one moon for them to forget that. But it is what it is...nothing I can really do to change it. I'm lucky I've got a lot of people who help make it bearable."
His eyes brightened a little at her interest in Wolfsbane.
"That's it, exactly!" he said. "It really would make an incredible difference and could lower the occurrence of attack. The problem is convincing people it's worth the money. They can't get over the fact that it's helping people they consider scum. They don't understand it'll take care of their 'scum' problem."
Resting his head on an upturned palm, he shrugged.
"And no, transforming isn't too different with the potion. Yes, I'm conscious the whole time, but I've always been aware of the pain. It's just a different kind of awareness....human instead of animal...if that makes sense?"
