Will bit his lip, not enjoying the fact that Devon stepped away from him but he respected he'd need to prepare himself for whatever the angel was about to say. Shit knew that Will did but there was no easy way to break it.
"I have a daughter. Her name's Eve. She's almost two, and I came here to look after her and be a part of her life for a while until the road calls me again... she's with Pearl," he added. "Pearl's her mother. We're not together but... Eve's the result of a nine-hour stint a few years back. I just figured - you'd need to know that."
Will blinked. Not only did Devon already know but he'd brought her a gift. The angel had no idea what to say. "You - you don't mind that I have a kid?" he asked quietly, as if someone would overhear and be outraged. "You - even bought her a designer teddy bear?"
"Why would I mind?" The idea that he would actually be upset about something like that was kind of odd to him. It wasn't as though Will had gone out, had an affair and knocked up some random woman. He had a child with his best friend. There wasn't really anything wrong with that. "I'll probably have kids someday. Maybe." He shrugged. "And no, not a bear. It's a cat. They were cuter."
"No, no, please don't reproduce," said Will seriously but he was joking. Sort of. He wasn't sure whether it was because of jealousy or the fact that there'd be more lines of the McCafferty variety. "The world couldn't handle that. Just... you surprise me. People just.. surprise me. The daughter thing hasn't ever been seen as anything other than a big deal."
Devon frowned at him a little for the... joke? "Yeah, you're probably right. Might not be the best idea to pass on anymore of my DNA." He exhaled a soft scoff at the thought of it and then shook that negativity from his mind. "Haven't I always?" He smiled. "It's... I dunno. It's fitting?" He frowned as he tried to think if that was the right way to put it. "You and Pearl love each other. You have for like.. ever. If you were going to have a kid with someone, it should be her." He paused and then added, "I bet she's adorable,"
Knowing that some negativity had creeped into Devon's head Will took his hands and squeezed them softly, going closer to him as if to reassure him. "I'm glad you understand it at least. I've always wanted you to meet her. She's - just imagine a combination of me and Pearl, blue eyes and blonde hair, pouty lips with a personality to match. My mouth in a lot of ways and Pearl's caring nature. She's lovely. She needs to meet her Uncle Devon.... but not before I welcome him home."
