Remington was almost as glad as Nathaniel that this healing experiment went well. Because Nathaniel could only imagine the horrific way that Remy would be mutilated if this went wrong. Maybe he would suck out his brain, or worse! Much, much worse. But nothing worse happened. As Nathaniel concentrated, just focusing on sucking out the bad in Remington's brain and putting it into his own, he found that his head was feeling very cloudy and dark and heavy. That must have meant it was working.
When it was finally done, and Remington seemed focused and sharp, Nathaniel felt the exact opposite. But he couldn't let his friend down. He forced himself awake, nodding in agreement. Most people only wanted Nathaniel for his magic, so it seemed likely that these people would too. Though they couldn't make him do their bidding. "Maybe that would be better," he suggested in a whisper, leaning closer to Remy. In fact, he rested his head on the man's shoulder, because his own head was pounding so much. "If they take me then you can maybe go home. And we'd be safe for a little while."
