Who: Denver and Malakai When: Thursday afternoon Where: hallway then Mal's office What: angry siren
Denver: Denver had just finished a long practice session in the music room. The acoustics were better in there, so she preferred it over her own room when it came to playing her cello or any other instrument. She was still humming though as she left and headed back for her room. Songs filled her head and her heart, and for just a moment, it was easy to get caught up in it all. Without meaning to, her song shifted to that of the siren, sending an alluring melody echoing through the halls.
Malakai: Mal heard the entrancing song long before it reached his office, ears twitching, but his body non-reactive. Well this would not do. As lovely as it was, there were quite a few humans in the vicinity who would be gravely affected should they hear it. Mal left his room and roamed the halls, zeroing in on the source. He came up behind her, incidentally, and wrapped a hand around her mouth and nose, stopping the humming. He would have said something, but she seemed to be zoned out. It was safer to stop her quickly. "As pretty as that sounds, it might be better sticking to pop or rock music in these halls." He had her attention, so Mal released the girl.
Denver: Denver was NOT expecting that. She immediately struggled, feeling as though she was being attacked. Hello? Someone strong from behind grabbing her face like that? She freaked out! She screamed and did all she could to wiggle free. Thankfully, he released her. She was gasping from the fear of it all. "Jeeze, man! Not cool!" Her hand came to her chest, feeling her heart threatening to jump out. "You scared the crap out of me."
Malakai: Mal grinned slowly, pleased with himself even though he'd done nothing more than frighten a chit of a girl. Apparently he needed to terrify the neighborhood more if he missed that little thrill. "You're welcome. I'd hate to think you'd have a dull day otherwise."
Denver: Denver slumped back against the wall, still trying to regain her composure. She'd dropped her sheet music in the scuffle, but she wasn't ready to pick it up just yet. "Why'd you do that?" She knew Malakai. He'd never acted like that around her before. Granted, they didn't know each other well, because he wasn't her teacher or her sponsor, but still!
Malakai: Standing there his nostrils flared, taking in her scent. Fear, anger, confusion. A mix he hadn't had in awhile. "Hmm, let's try I don't feel like picking bodies up off the sidewalk after they jump out windows to find you." She still didn't seem to get it, so Mal added, "You were humming your siren song."
Denver: At first, she looked confused, then he clarified, and Denver put her own hand over her mouth. "Oh shit," she mumbled through her fingers. They dropped, and she looked supremely guilty. "I didn't even realize it. That hasn't happened in years." Okay, so Malakai was justified in his actions. "I'm sorry. And, uh, thanks for stopping me."
Malakai: Mal nodded when she seemed to catch on. "As I said, stick to something a bit more modern around the halls." Bodies were simply too much work to explain, especially since the school was trying to live in the main world. A 'muggle' world, to quote a once-popular series. "You're welcome, Denver."
Denver: She looked at him curiously. "I've never known other hellhounds. You're the first. It's a good thing you're immune. Although, if you weren't, maybe I could have gotten something out of it." She laughed lightly. Her song could be very convincing.
Malakai: "Word of advice? If for some reason you ever get a hound under your spell, release him or her immediately. You're more likely to get off with it being a mistake." Otherwise, the moment a hound was released, her throat was liable to be ripped out. And she had such pretty lines.
Denver: She frowned then. "Jesus, I said I was sorry. It was an accident, and not a common one. It's been years since I sang like that without realizing it. Chill out."
Malakai: Mal nodded, accepting her apology. "Just friendly advice is all. I know my breed. Not all are as forgiving as me." He knew he was intimidating, but lately, he simply didn't feel it anymore. Mal felt as tame as a house pup. Domestic, even. That needed to change and soon.
Denver: She shrugged. "Alright." He was a grump. She dropped down to her knees and started collecting her scattered sheet music. Now it was all out of order. She'd spent hours composing this song. Ugh!
Malakai: Mal glanced down at her papers and shrugged. He wasn't the one that dropped them, so he wasn't going to pick them up. "Enjoy your afternoon, Denver." Spinning on his heel, the hound started to make his way back to the stairs to return to his office.
Denver: Denver looked up, "Get your ass back here." Yeah, he was a teacher, but she spoke her mind. "It's your fault I dropped this stuff. Show some decency and help me."
Malakai: Mal merely glanced over his shoulder. "I think you misunderstand who it is you're talking to. You dropped the papers, not I." He kept walking, having only paused long enough to call out to her.
Denver: "And I wouldn't have dropped them if I didn't think I was about to be butt raped by a stranger!" she snapped back, glaring up at him. He was being a jerk.
Malakai: "In this school? You need some better fantasies!" Mal chortled, and shook his head.
Denver: "What the hell does that mean?" She didn't understand what the school had to do with the possibility of her being sexually assaulted.
Malakai: Mal didn't bother to reply; he'd let her figure it out on her own. Opening the door to the stairwell, he started jogging up the stairs two at a time until he reached his floor.
Denver: Denver glared some more as he bailed. She quickly finished gathering her things, and then ran off to confront Malakai. She wanted an apology. No, she was going to DEMAND one. "Hey, rude dude. How about you say sorry? You freaked me out." She had a weird, irrational fear of being kidnapped. Yeah, it was stupid, but it was real, and when he grabbed her, she nearly had a heart attack.
Malakai: Mal was already at his floor, so he peeked over the railing at her. "You want me to apologize from stopping you entrancing half the school population? For choosing an expedient route? Hmm." The hound pretended to think about it for a moment. "No." Pushing off the rail, he exited the stairwell. If she wanted to rail at him, she needed to chase him.
Denver: And chase him she did. She was fast on her feet. Especially now that she was angry. Sirens were predators. Yeah, they used their song to bring the food to them, but that didn't mean they were incapable of hunting. "Maybe I'll start singing again. Maybe then you'll be sorry," she threatened, feeling all fired up now.
Malakai: Mal once again glanced over his shoulder at her. "I don't particularly care if you do sing or not. It doesn't affect me. But do you really want to kill your classmates with your song? The children here?" He could play just as dirty as she could. Worse even.
Denver: "I'm a carnivore. A hunter. You should understand that. Of all the people here." Didn't he get it? She kept herself controlled most of the time, but she had natural urges.
Malakai: "If you don't care, then sing," he challenged. Mal understood, probably better than anyone here, what it was like to cage those urges, to lock down the beast merely for the protection of humanity. "The worst that could happen here is you feed from your best friend and get kicked out." He had no issues goading her along. After all, it wasn't his hide on the line.
Denver: A siren feeding wasn't the same as a vampire feeding. She wouldn't just drink a little blood. She'd eat flesh. She'd kill someone. That was why she kept instinct at bay. "I do care. I'm just, fuck, asking for a little understanding."
