Lyle's words led way for Maggie to fully understand the term 'crush.' It broke her heart to hear him say he was sorry. Sorry that he didn't feel the same. Maggie frowned and looked down at her knees, then her hands as she picked at a cuticle. All she could do was nod. What could she say? Nothing. Maggie put herself out there, and she was rejected. It had never happened before, because she'd never really felt this way about a guy before. Her relationship with Devon was different. They were friends, and she loved him, but she'd wanted to have sex with him more as a matter of trust, not because she was enamored with him.
Getting up from the futon, Maggie started walking around the room to blow out candles and flipped on the lamp by her bed. She wanted to curl up under the covers with her cat right now. Where was Edelweiss? Maggie dropped to her knees and looked under the bed, spotting her kitty hiding under there. She made kissing noises and reached out, trying to convince the big ball of fluffy white fur to come out. As Maggie did so, she started to get choked up. She felt tears stinging her eyes. "Dammit, Edelweiss, come here," Maggie begged.
