Thursday - September 5th, 2019
Who: Mara and Rez
When: Thursday - September 5th, 2019 - Late Afternoon
Where: Beast Control Classroom then Rez's car
What: Daddy and Daughter Time
Mara had rushed out of class and down the hall to the beast control classroom hoping to find EJ, she wanted him to walk her to her last class and possibly spend some time making out in the spot they found that no one seemed to go to. She was leaning on the lockers in the hall not really paying attention, just looking at her phone, knowing Ej would speak to her when he came out but instead she heard her father's voice.
~~~
EJ had walked out first, spotted Mara, smiled and was heading toward her when his father came out of the classroom to catch one of the kids who had just left and had forgotten something. EJ changed his course last minute, turning around a corner instead of going to where Mara stood and, sure enough, Rez spotted her, a broad grin upon his own face.
"Hey there, Princess." This was a pleasant surprise. Of course Rez assumed that she had come to see him, not his son, and he walked over to her quickly, still wearing that grin. "What are you doin' down this way?" He opened his arms for a hug
~~~
Mara looked up when she heard her father speaking to her, that was why she didn't see EJ. She recovered quickly and shoved her phone in her purse after sending EJ a frowny face. "Hi Daddy." She said with a wide smile and then threw her arms around him, feeling her skirt lift up a bit too much in the back, and she was probably flashing black lace at the football team behind her.
~~~
"I just missed you is all, wondered if you wanted to eat with me?"
~~~
Rez was happy as could be to see her. He gave her a tight squeeze as he hugged her and then pulled away to look at her, a brow arching slightly. "You wanna eat with me? Figured you'd have a list a mile long of other guys dying to grab a bite with you." It wasn't until then that he got a good look at what she was wearing and he scowled. "Mara Quinn, that skirt is entirely too short. Who bought you that?" If he had to guess, it was probably her mother. Charlie just didn't think when it came to things like that. Rez, on the other hand... He'd have her in sweat suits that covered her from head to toe if he had it his way.
~~~
Mara rolled her eyes at her father. "Daddy please, boys are a dime a dozen, you're my dad." She kissed his cheek. "I wanna spend time with you." Mara did mean what she was saying but she wanted to make her father so happy that he wouldn't start thinking about the fact she could have been here for EJ. When Rez started scolding her for her dress she just fluttered her lashes and pouted at him, something straight out of Riley's book. "Momma bought it." She said and then bit her lip. "Don't I look pretty in it?" She giggled when one of the football players adamantly agreed that she did.
~~~
That never cased to make Rez feel happy. Those were the best words in the world. And even if Mara wasn't his biologically speaking, it didn't matter. She was his daughter. And he adored her as such. And that made him also quite protective of her too. "Of course she did," he scowled a little and then he sighed. "Yes, baby. You look beautiful." But then he heard one of the football players and he gave him a scathing look. "Put your eyeballs back in your head, boy." He pulled Mara over to where he was in between her and their line of sight. "I just need to grab my stuff and then we can go." He began steering her toward the classroom door.
~~~
Mara loved the smile that put on her father's face and then bit her lip to keep from laughing when he scowled about Charlie. The constant bickering between Rez and Charlie had always amused Mara, it was seeing a different side to her parents but she could tell they liked each other....just not like that. She straightened up at the praise and then glanced over her shoulder at the football player when Rez scolded him and blew him a kiss when he father wasn't looking. She walked over to the classroom and smiled at him. "Okay, you get your stuff daddy."
~~~
If Rez had caught that kiss she blowed that boy, he probably would have took her over his knee and spanked her. He didn't balk when it came to administering punishment, unlike his counterparts who were complete and total pushovers. It was kind of funny. He would have expected that he would have been the one who would have been a easily convinced otherwise. And someetimes he was. But, for the most part, he was the disciplinarian of the family. It was a Thursday, so Rez knew that Mara didn't have another class since it was only elemental stuff after his class on Thursday afternoon, but he wasn't sure if she had joined any of the clubs that met later that afternoon. "Did you wanna go off campus and grab a bite? I can drop you back off afterward." He paused and then added, "We can see if EJ wants to go with us, if you want."
~~~
It wouldn't have been the first time Rez spanked her that would be for sure. Mara had always hated that when it happened. In her family the hardest nut to crack was Rez and on occasion Trevor. Sometimes she could get around Rez but if he was digging in so was Riley. And Trevor sometimes dug in about odd things. "I would love to." She said with grin and then slid her arm through Rez's. She blinked when he brought up EJ and then looked at him. "Do you want to have EJ come along?" She asked softly resting her head on Rez's shoulder.
~~~
Rez was done with his day here, so he was ready to go home, chill out, see his husband, whom he hardly saw when they were working these days, but he could put that off for some time with his daughter. Packing up some papers that he needed to grade, he smirked a little at the question. "Eh, don't matter either way to me. I just thought that you might want him to come." And maybe, just maybe, it would give him a chance to talk to the both of them, since he hadn't really done so since that night he had caught them, a thought which made him shudder a little.
~~~
Mara checked her phone and smiled at the text EJ sent her, and then looke at Rez."I do want him to come daddy...I mean he's my best friend." She said with a smile and grabbed her dad's jacket from the back of his chair. Mara smiled knowing Riley had bought it for him, it was expensive and probably forced on Rez, who never seemed to wear things like this unless he was teaching. "Dad has a session today, new student who has some serious issues I guess." She said as she looked at her phone again and then shoved it in her purse.
~~~
EJ had texted Mara back. It was nothing major, just a frowny face and the words "stupid dad". It was enough to let her know that he had seen her there and wasn't happy that their father had interfered with their time together. "Uh huh," Rez replied somewhat incredulously. "So he's just your best friend now, huh?" He had to resist the urge to roll his eyes at the jacket. "I think I'll leave that off." His work day was over, after all. And yes, Riley had bought it so that he would look professional in the work place. Like he cared. "Ah, okay. So.. you gonna text him and see if he wants to come or you want me to do it?" He was back on the subject of EJ again as he started to lead the way out of the classroom since it was being utilized by another professor during the next block.
~~~
Mara hugged the jacket to her chest and rolled her eyes at him. "EJ will always be my best friend daddy." She said with a smile and then put the jacket on over her dress. Rez wasn't a really big guy but he was much bigger than his daughter, so she looked about five years old in it. "Um yeah I can text him." Mara pulled her phone out and followed behind her father as she texted her...EJ. Daddy wants to know if you want to come with us for food
~~~
For some reason, Rez just didn't buy that. Especially not after the other night. But he kept those thoughts to himself as they walked, a smile forming upon his lips as she shrugged on his jacket. She reminded him of the cute little girl that had worshipped the ground he walked on when he first met her, his little Bug. God, it was so hard thinking of her as a grown up now. He wanted to lock her away somewhere and keep her safe from the world forever and it made him frown to think that he couldn't. Hell no. This was the response that Mara would get to her text. And a moment later, another one would follow. He'll turn it into a lecture. I don't need that.
~~~
It was the truth, no matter what happened Ej will always be Mara's best friend, even if they were in bed together. Mara still worshiped the ground her father walked on, but she had her own ideals and ways of thinking now and she was raised to make sure she stood up for them and herself so...sometimes she seemed far away from that little girl. Mara took her father's hand in hers as they walked and then glanced at her phone when it went off. She frowned at his text and sent one back. probably but I will miss you so much, watch a movie with me later?
~~~
Rez could be completely out of it sometimes, but when it came to his kids, he was finely tuned, and he knew from the shift in her that EJ had said no. "He's not coming?" He asked, and then he gave her hand a squeeze. "Just as well. I need some alone time with my best girl!" He pulled her hand to his mouth and kissed her knuckles. "Now put the phone away and pay attention to me." She may or may not get the chance to read EJ's last text, a non-commital maybe. Just as well. Rez led the way out onto the grounds and to his car. Thankfully he had driven in on his own today because Riley had to be in early. He opened the door for his daughter to climb in, scowling again at her too short skirt. He was going to have words with Charlie about the clothes she bought for their daughter.
~~~
Mara looked at her father and for a minute she looked upset but then it vanished with her smile and she shrugged. "No he seems to think you will lecture us." She said with a laugh and then slipped her phone into her purse, knowing she would see the movie later with EJ even if he didn't want to say yes. She rested her head on Rez's shoulder and then smiled when she saw the car, it was dad's old Impala which he really didn't want the car seats in so when he dropped off Micah to daycare he always had a different car. "Yay! I love this car." She grinned. Mara had travelled in this car since she was little, of course there had been a car seat then. Mara climbed into the car and smoothed her dress underneath her. She knew her parents were going to have a talk about her clothes and it annoyed her but she said nothing. "Where do you want to eat?" She asked as she put her feet up on the dash, not caring that she was probably flashing her black underwear again, but no one could see it but her father anyways
~~~
Rez smirked. "He's probably right." He had asked her to invite EJ because he wanted to have words with them both but since the older one wasn't coming, then it would be just Mara that he talked to. And maybe that would be easier, better. Either way it was going to be awkward as fuck but... Fine. He had to do what she had to do. "Yeah, me too." Rez smirked, having a lot of good damn memories in this car. He walked around to climb in and then glanced over at Mara. "We can go wherever..." He gaped at her. "Mara! Put your feet down, please. I've already seen you.. half naked I don't.. I am not tryin' to see your underpants." Even if he was her father, one of them, it just.. She needed to learn that that sort of thing wasn't appropriate. "If you're going to wear skirts that short, then you have to be careful, okay?" He hated sounded like he was harping on her, but he didn't want people to get the wrong idea about his little girl. "Especially.. around boys. They're... Teenage guys are.." He sighed. "Well they only think about one thing, Mara."
~~~
"Oh I know he's right but that's okay, I don't mind." She said as she swung their hands. Mara looked at her father when he said he had good memories in the car she scrunched up her nose and shook her head. "Do not want to know." She had been wiping some dirt off her sandal when Rez freaked out. Mara brought her feet down, her eyes huge like when she was little and was about to cry, although now she didnt usually. "Daddy...you see me in my bikini and the bottoms cover less than my underwear." She said as she tucked one leg up under herself and then looked at him. "I know they do, it's kind of obvious even without powers." She laughed and then squeezed Rez's hand. "It's okay daddy really, I know how to wear short skirts."
~~~
"That's different. That's.. not underwear." Maybe that was all in his head, the fact that it was okay for her to run around in a tiny bikini, well, no, not okay, but at least less distressing, than seeing her panties. And he would be talking to Charlie about those too. Black lace? No girl her age needed underwear like that. "Yeah, well.. You're.. young, you know, and they're gonna.. try to take advantage and sweet talk you and tell you things they think you wanna hear just to... to get what they want and..." He was rambling, starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot to head toward downtown so she could pick out where she wanted to eat. "I just don't want to see you get hurt." Like he had hurt so many girls over the years. Now that he had his own teenagers, he felt guilty about it. But, you know, he'd been a kid back then too, at least for a good chunk of it.
~~~
She smiled at him and patted his leg before looking out the window. She looked back over at him and smiled softly. "I'm not like most girls daddy....and not all boys are that bad. Besides EJ would rip their faces off if they tried to hurt me, or take my virginity just for fun." She said a she dug in her purse for lip gloss. Mara had always thought EJ would protect her from everything, even when she was five, he was her protector and that was all there was to it. "Can we eat at that mexican place? I love their food." Mara knew her father sometimes had a hard time with having teenage daughters because he was a dick to girls when he was younger. "I talked to Chloe at lunch, she wants to come down next weekend." Mara said as she put on the gloss and then shoved it in her purse. Mara was jealous of her little sister but she loved her dearly and when they didn't live in the same house they talked all the time.
~~~
"Yeah, he prolly would." Rez smirked, knowing that EJ would look out for Mara but... the question was, who was going to look out for her where EJ was concerned? "Sounds good." He could go for a chimichanga. Of course the mention of Chloe made him smile, looking over at her surprised. "Yeah? She said that?" He had been heartbroken when she had moved out of the house to go live with her mother. He couldn't blame her. The house was crazy sometimes but... He really did miss her. "So uhm... You and EJ talked much since uh... that night?" He didn't want to come right out and say what had happened that night. It was still too much for him to process. But he needed to know where the two of them stood for his own peace of mind.
~~~
"EJ gets mad at his friends all the time." She said as she brushed lint off her leg. "They always hit on me or crowd me at lunch." She said with a smile. "I don't really care but he gets pissed." Mara said and then glanced at him nodding. "yeah she misses us, except EJ he's a douche in her mind apparently." Mara smirked and then shrugged. "Riv said it was okay if she wanted to go and stuff, I think she wants her to go to TJS." She said as they pulled into the restaurant and then looked at her father. "Yeah we talked at lunch and stuff. "
~~~
That sounded about right. Though it sounded a bit like jealousy and that didn't sit right with Rez. These were his kids. And while they might not be related biologically, they were damn sure brother and sister and any other ideas that either of them ahd in their head just needed to go. "Why's she think EJ's a douche?" He asked, a frown upon his lips. "Well, with supes for parents and siblings, might not be a bad idea." He gave a small shrug of his shoulders. "I wouldn't mind seeing her more," he admitted, though he doubted Mara cared to hear about all of that. "Good. Good. Uhm..." He was trying to think of what else to ask, but this was such an awkward situation that... he just wasn't sure what to say. "So are you two still... uh... Interested in one another?" That was a way of putting it lightly. He killed the ignition, but didn't climb out of the car just yet.
~~~
Mara shrugged. "Typical sibling stuff I guess, he thinks she's a pain the ass." EJ and Chloe had a normal sibling relationship, which was something else that Mara used in her logic for them. If they felt like real siblings they would act more like those two but they didn't, from day one they held hands and Mara kissed his cheek...if their parents hadn't married she knew where her and EJ would be, deeply in love and probably hanging out in the common room right now. "I know you miss her daddy, she misses you too and she's not really fond of Riv's boyfriend." Mara looked at him when he asked that quesition and frowned. "Does it matter? You would just put a stop to it anyways."
~~~
Rez smirked. He liked that the kids seemed to mostly get along. He had never had that with his sister. She had hated him from day one and had never made him feel like he belonged in their family. Of course that made him think about his other nephew, Adam, whom he'd not seen in years. He hoped he was doing well. At least he knew where to find him if he ever wanted to. He'd not moved from this place. "Yeah, well... He ain't me." He grinned smugly. Of course the new topic was a difficult one and... he sighed. "I just.. think it's not a good idea, Mara. It would complicate things if like.. the two of you start something and it don't work out..."
~~~
All the Quinn/Reznick/Reid children got along, it was loud, crazy and there was usually yelling or tears at some point but things were always happy in their house. If Mara had known he was thinking of Adam she would have hugged him tight, knowing how hard he was on him. But she never tried to find out what her uncle Adam did...she knew enough of his past behaviour. "No he's not you, she suffers from the same thing EJ does, they want you Riv together and they resent Dad because you chose him." She said with a shrug and then sighed. "It just freaks you the fu...hell out." Mara said with a smile.
~~~
"EJ resents Riley?" Rez had never even thought that. Or that Chloe did, for that matter. He knew they both loved their mother, but he thought that they were both okay with the way things were, with him and Riley being together, being married. River was okay with it. They had long since buried their demons and the hatchet and had learned to be friends who loved one another deeply and would always have a special place for the other inside their heart. But they weren't meant to be together. "Mara!" Rez scowled. "I heard what you almost said and young ladies should not talk like that." But that point aside, "It worries me. I mean.. you two are always going to be family and... and sex complicates things, Mara. I don't want it.. making a mess of things in our family again." Especially since teenage romance rarely stood the test of time. He and River were proof enough of that, weren't they?
~~~
Mara winced and then sighed. "Don't take it wrong...he loves dad and so does Chloe but...they have always always wanted you and Riv together. Please don't talk to him about this he will be so angry that you know because you will be all weird about it. Dad knows because he can feel it but he understands it." She said and then rolled her eyes. "Daddy! I'm a teenager, have you heard how EJ talks! Do not say it's because I'm a girl, I swear it happens." She pouted at him and then crossed her arms over her chest. Mara frowned at him and then looked away. "Daddy nothing has actually happened."
~~~
"I won't, I just.. figured they'd talk to me about it, that's all." And he was a bit disappointed, honestly.But as long as Riley understood and wasn't hurt, that's what really mattered, he supposed. If he could handle it, then Rez figured he could too. "I know and I don't like to hear it from him either but not from you. You're... better than that kinda language, Mara." And yes, it was partially because she was a girl. Double standards? Sure. But he wanted her to be a nice young lady not some foul-mouthed trollop. "Okay, okay. Let's just... try and keep it that way." He sighed, quieting for a moment before he asked, "You ready to go eat?" That was about as lecturey as he got. Though it was maybe more than the other parents would have said about it for the moment.
~~~
"They know how much you love dad, they wouldn't want to hurt you." She said with a frown and then chewed on her lip. "I'm the girl I shouldn't sound like that, it's not proper." She said in a monotone voice, because she had heard it more than once from different parents. "OH my god yes please i am so hungry." She leaned over and kissed his cheek before she got out of he car carefully and waited for Rez by the door of the restaurant.
