Who: Charlie, Adam (and eventually Ana and Saul) When: Friday night Where: a Boston hotel What: killing the bastard!
Charlie had been here before. In this situation. Though there was less urgency this time around. He wasn’t on a rescue mission. This was about revenge. It was also about protecting his family against future attacks. But it was becoming clear to him that nothing he did would ever truly protect them. This shit was just going to keep happening now that he’d invited the supernatural world into their lives.
At least he was better prepared this time. Charlie was also in a better headspace. He wasn’t panicked. Maggie would be safe back at school, and not just in Ava’s care, since he didn’t fully trust Ava right now given how easily she’d been manipulated by Saul earlier in the week. The whole security team knew to keep a close eye on Charlie’s apartment and make sure no one came in or out. He’d also called Peyton and asked her to stick around for awhile. Her talents would come in handy in defending Maggie if necessary.
He headed to the house first, because the school frowned upon Charlie keeping an armory in his apartment. He stocked up on all the necessities, including a few weapons that could kill him if he wasn’t careful. They were necessary, because he was taking down a vampire, someone who would be just as difficult to kill as Val had been. Maybe more so.
When he knocked on Adam’s door, he looked like something straight out of Rambo. “Let’s go,” was all he said, before shoving a pistol and shotgun into the other man’s hands.
---
Adam wanted nothing more than to kill the bastard as much as Charlie did but guns weren’t the best idea of a weapon he’d had in mind. His hands were the best weapon, able to throw the fucker across the room with a flick of the finger and maybe crush his skull or slice open his head or something else... he had no idea where the murderous thoughts had come from but he was enjoying the possibility of entertaining.
So, with this being his mindset, he glanced at the guns and then looked at Charlie. “Wow, Stallone, you’ve aged badly,” he said dryly, before he shoved the shotgun back at the vampire. “I won’t be needing that. You might.”
---
“Suit yourself.” Charlie just shrugged and took the weapon back. He didn’t mind packing extra heat. He had a multitude of weapons strapped to his body, including a sword and a lot of holy water that he prayed wouldn’t spill on him. He had enough scars.
“He’s at a hotel in Boston. It’ll probably get loud and messy.” Charlie pulled a letter out of his pocket and handed it to Adam. “You give this to Maggie if I’m arrested.” It was a strong possibility. Death was too, but he was trying to stay optimistic on that front.
---
Adam glanced at the letter before taking it. “And what if I’m arrested or dead? She won’t get it then either. Forethought. You’re only the only one trained for combat, marine.” He said the last word with a little exaggeration, as if he were exasperated that being a pilot didn’t get recognised. He’d fought off enemies before, just not one that was cornered and a vampire.
“How are we getting there?”
----
“Neither is gonna happen to you. You’ve got powers. You can get away. I’m just.. strong. And pissed.” More than pissed, but the point stood. “And, unlike me, you’ve actually seen combat. I just trained.” Because he didn’t count his death match with Val as an actual ‘battle’. War was different. He’d seen it in the eyes of his friends who actually survived, but they returned feeling somewhat dead on the inside. Charlie was like that too in some ways, but it still wasn’t the same.
“I’ve got a car. Well, it’s Maggie’s.. but I don’t think she’ll mind if we borrow it, especially considering I rebuilt the damn thing.” He headed back down the hall in the direction of the exit. “I don’t know how old Saul is, or if he has any tricks up his sleeve that he’s been hiding from Ana and Ava, but I do know that he was caught off guard by Maggie shifting. There’s a good chance he doesn’t know about your abilities either.”
---
“If he does he does. Not much he can do to avoid it. If I were strong enough I’d bring the whole building down, but I’m not.” Because he hadn’t had the time to develop his skills, rather be afraid of them, he was only half as strong as he could be and he knew it. He hated it, at this point. He said nothing more as they made their way to the car, and when he settled in to the passenger seat he glanced back at the school.
“So long as there’s no more problems, tonight will end well.”
---
“End well? No,” Charlie said with a shake of his head. “They’re gonna be in bad shape.” Maggie would probably feel some pain as well, because her bloodline came from Saul’s. Charlie hated to inflict that upon her, having experienced the pain of a dead sire, but it was for the best. Saul would find new and ever more cruel ways to punish the twins and their loved ones.
He turned on the car and sped off toward Boston. “Do you think you’re strong enough to crush his heart or brain?” he asked with a quick glance at Adam.
---
Adam didn’t care if Ana hurt, or anyone else. Maybe it was a dark side of him coming back but still, she’d hurt him. If he could he’d have murdered Nox too for the sake of it but maybe he didn’t need to kill... maybe he could just beat them up a bit, teach them a lesson.
He did a double take when Charlie posed the questions. “Give me a heavy object and I am,” he replied smoothly.
---
Adam was directing his anger at the wrong people. Charlie knew, because he was pissed at Ava, but he wouldn’t take this out on her. She was simply the weapon. The instrument Saul used. His anger couldn’t be helped, but he knew who really deserved to be punished.
“Well, it’s a hotel.. fancy one. I’m sure there’s plenty of heavy shit in the room you can hurl at him. I just thought maybe your powers allowed you to.. I don’t know.. squeeze his organs until they pop or something.” He didn’t understand Adam’s powers all that well.
---
Adam didn’t understand them all that much either and shrugged at him. “I Dunno. Not really tried. Usually I levitate, move things... I’ve never tried to grasp anything but i guess if I try and pick him up from the heart by using my powers it’ll do the same job. Maybe you should have brought the Hulk with you instead.”
---
“I thought about bringing Peyton, but I left her at the apartment to look after Maggie instead. I need someone strong taking care of her.” Not that Adam wasn’t strong, but Charlie had seen Peyton in action, and she was a little terrifying. She could also teleport on and off campus, something no one else could do, so she could get Maggie far away if necessary.
He kept his mouth shut for a while, focusing on the road ahead and the mission. Revenge was important to him, but he wasn’t going to fuck this up out of some sick desire to made Saul suffer. This was about putting an end to the vampire. If it ended up being quick and relatively painless, then so be it. So long as Saul was dead.
---
Adam was fine with silence because he didn’t have anything else to say. Instead he tapped his finger on the side of the window, taking deep breaths to calm and center his mind. Peyton might have been a better idea but she wasn’t here. So, instead of waxing lyrical about the ways Saul was going to pay for this, Adam thought of the reasons he was going to pay. He only knew of one so far, but that was reason enough.
“What’s the plan of attack?” he asked eventually.
---
“Shoot first.” It sounded simple, and it was. It had worked with Val. Charlie kept firing until he’d emptied every round into her chest. The bullets had all been soaked in holy water and blessed by the priest at school. “Behead second. That’s my plan anyway. You do what you want. And I don’t care who takes the kill shot. It doesn’t really matter as long as he’s dead. He has to die for what he did. I can’t let him hurt her again.”
