Ana’s brows furrowed as she turned from the man and headed out the front door with Ava and Maggie. Once they were outside, they crossed the street and jumped back into the Camaro. What had they done? The realization of tonight’s events had hit her even harder as the engine roared to life. Maggie wasn’t mature enough to understand why she couldn’t just feed off a random stranger. She was just a kid.
“We’ll get you something to eat soon,” was all Ana could offer. It was too soon for someone her age to be feeding straight from the source. Looking over at her twin, Ana wondered if Ava was thinking the same thing. They couldn’t take the little girl to a den. That was certainly out of the question, so they would have to resort to giving her bagged blood. She hadn’t tasted anything other than Ava’s blood so she wouldn’t be able to taste the difference between bagged and fresh from the source yet.

“I know.” She answered Maggie’s complaint as they walked towards the car. “We’ll get you something. We just need to.... work out the best way.” Ava sighed, returning her twin’s look. This was not something she thought they would be having to sort out any time soon, or at all really. She hadn’t intended to turn anyone, never mind Maggie with all the complications that brought even in just choosing a source of food. Ava was thinking the same as Ana, they couldn’t take her to a den, and she did not feel like cleaning up after Maggie if she fed on someone random. “We need to go back to the school. You can drink there for now, and then.... we need to sort out everything else....” Like Charlie.

Maggie paused once more, but this time just to put on her heels before they walked outside. She sped up then to match the twins’ pace as they headed back to the car. “Are we gonna go to a den?” Maggie had heard about those places from some guys at school. She heard lots of people had sex there. “I don’t wanna sleep with a guy for blood. Do I have to?” That was how it seemed to work, or maybe that was just gossip. The guys who said such things weren’t actually vampires, and they seemed to be full of shit a lot of times. Maybe they didn’t know anything about dens. Probably didn’t.

“We’re going back to the school,” Ana stated with an edge as everyone made it into the car. She revved the engine and peeled out of her parking spot a little harder than she intended. The younger twin knew it was up to the older twin to teach her new childe, but Ana didn’t think it was wise to throw Maggie into that kind of environment. No doubt Ava thought the same thing.
It was a bit disconcerting how much Maggie seemed to know. Where was she getting all this information from? Because Ana had certainly never told her about it. “No, you don’t have to. And you shouldn’t either.” Double standard? Yes. Ana and Ava did it, or used to, but that didn’t mean that Maggie had to resort to that. Oh lord, it seemed Ana was beginning to care about this girl.
