Who: Sim and Riley When: Morning Where: Riley's office What: a job interview
Sim was nervous. Her was her first job interview and she had dressed as best she could with the clothes that Garret had bought her. Skinny jeans with a pair of knee high brown boots, a purple tank top and black fitted jacket. Her feather's hung from her hair and her make up done tastefully. She even asked a teacher if she looked okay for a nanny interview.
Getting the green light, she had her papers of references in her hand as she power walked to Mr. Quinn's office. Knocking, she waited for the call to invite her in.
Riley finished a few files of paperwork when he heard the knock on the door. "Come in." He called out as he got up to open his filing cabinet and shove the papers inside. He glanced around his office to make sure it wasn't messy...it really wasn't, rarely was.
He smiled when he saw the girl standing there and walked over to her, hand extended. "You must be Sim right?" Riley asked as he flashed her a charming smile.
"Hello," Sim said as she came in smiling. "Yes, I am." Taking his hand, she shook it. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir." Her French accent was very obvious, but hopefully that was in her favor. From what she understood about Americans, they adored French nannies. Something about that foreign feel. Not to mention another language helped in taking care of the child. Somehow. "Here are my reference, I hope they're helpful." Sim handed over her references to him.
Riley took the references and smiled as he looked at them. "Yes it will be helpful, come in and sit. tell me a bit about you." Riley said as he shut the door to his office and set the paper on his desk. Riley wasn't sure how this type of interview was supposed to go, but he was pretty sure he wanted to know the girls on a more personal level because they would be in his home and interacting with his...family.
"I'm originally from Montrouge, France. It's a small town outside of Paris. I have lived there for my entire life. I recently came to America to visit my father and to further my education in my craft," Sim said, trying to think of her best qualities. "I am a witch and a pathfinder as well as a gypsy. I grew up moving around from day to day. Part of my duties were to entertain tourists with dances and tarot card readings. My daily duties were taking care of the younger children in our clan. I helped with the babies, toddlers, and children as old as ten. This included feeding, dressing, bathing, and teach them various trades."
Riley looked at Sim as she talked, intrigued by her story. "Really? Wow that must be a beautiful place to have grown up." Riley had never been to France, for all his money he hadn't travelled, it just never appealed to him that much. Although there was going to be a trip to Disney in the next couple of years coming. He made a few notes on the back of her references and then smiled at her. "That's kind of impressive. You must love being around children then?"
It was. I loved it," Sim nodded. "I do. I miss it. We're very much family involved. A lot of what we do is based on our family's schedule and who is there and who is not." It was very simple. If they stayed together as a family, then they would be able to get the hell out of town if the police came around to arrest them or chase them.
Riley smiled at Sim and nodded slightly. "It must be hard for you to be away from all of your family like that?" Riley had no idea what a large family was like but he could imagine it was wonderful to be part of one. "So is that part of why you want to be a nanny? You miss it?"
"Slightly. I loved it while I was there, but I felt I needed to expand more," Sim said as she tried her best to explain why she needed the job without sounding horribly negative and needy. "I actually need a job and I'm good with children. The job I have at the school right now isn't really for me. I work maintenance two days a week and I am in need of scenery change."
Riley blinked slightly and then chewed on his lip. "So you work maintenance?" He said slightly surprised and then remembered that's what Finn did. "So you work with Finn then?' He asked nicely enough, whether he and Finn were friends or not had nothing to do with it. "I think you'd be better suited for children than those disgusting pipes" Riley smiled and then leaned forward a bit. "So you will have to meet Mara, see how that goes over."
"Yes, I work with Finn. He's my uncle," Sim said, unsure of how to really put her relation to Finn. It was the easiest way. "I don't do the heavy things. Mostly cleaning and handing him tools." She perked up when he mentioned meeting his daughter. "That's a pretty name. Irish. I've love to meet her. It doesn't matter about references or training, because in the end it's about how well the children and the care giver connect and get along. Is she gifted? I'm assuming you are since you work here, so she might be as well."
Riley nodded, trying to think how Finn could be her uncle but he figured he would find out eventually. "Well that's good then." He smiled and then nodded. "Mara was my mother's middle name, her family was very irish, a lot of them are still there." He said as he smoothed his hands over his dress pants. "It is, the connection to the child is very important and yes she is gifted but we aren't exactly sure what she will get. I think clairvoyance is in there but were not sure."
"My mother is a witch and my father is a path finder at the school. So, I do have a bit of knowledge about helping younger children manage gifts if it ever arises. We have clairvoyants, witches, fairies, and the like in our clan." Sim explained.
Riley nodded and then smiled at her. "You sound very knowledgeable about powers and such, we could all use more of that around the house." He said with a smile and then cleared his throat. "I think we should set up a night for you to come over and meet Mara."
This was sounding like it was turning out very well. "Thank you, I'd really like that. If it's any added incentive, I would be able to teach Mara French. It's easier for children to learn foreign languages when they're younger than when they get older," Sim said. It was a bit at the end, but as long as it was a positive on her then she'd take it.
Riley smiled at Sim and nodded. "That would be fantastic Sim....I think I'd like to pay you to teach her french anyways." He said as he got up and walked to the door to hold it for her. Riley held out his hand to her and shook it. How about Thursday after supper?" He asked.
"Alright," Sim said, brightening even more at that prospect. At least she'd be able to make some money with the French lessons. "I would be able to do that. What time should I be there?"
"Come around six if you want. You can have dessert with us." Riley smiled at her. "I'm excited to see how you two interact, she will be thrilled to learn a new language."
"I can do that," she said, standing at the door with him. "I will see you then. Thank you for seeing me. I will see you Thursday evening and I will look forward to that dessert. I'm sure she'll love it and be happy to meet me."
Riley laughed softly and nodded. "I know she will. I will see you on Thursday night Sim." Riley was looking forward to it, he hoped Mara liked Sim, this was going to be a hard decision.
