This wasn't how Beth expected this to go at all. It showed on her face, she surprise and confusion. Berta liked her? Like... like liked her. No one had ever like liked Beth before. She didn't know what to say. And she felt like she should have known that she couldn't keep this secret from people, and that her past was always going to follow her around no matter what. And Berta was probably going to be so mad. The thought of having someone actually see her as somebody to like, and then destroying it so readily, made Beth start crying. "Oh," she said softly, turning her face away. Oh, no. This was just horrible. "Berta I can't... you don't understand..." Gasping for a few breaths, trying to calm herself but not succeeding, Beth's hands fumbled on the clasp of her bag as she pried it open and dug something out. "You need to see this," she whispered, holding out a photograph in a shaking hand.
