Of course Charlie was sad inside. It would be impossible not to be when you'd gone through all the shit that she had. But she did her best to hide it, to not give in to it, to not allow it to slow her down. Otherwise, they won, and that just wasn't acceptable.
Giggling at the compliment, she gave him a little twirl before she rolled her eyes about his remark about food and took his hand. "Come on, daddy, I'll show you the way." He knew where the kitchen was already, sure, but maybe she just wanted an excuse to hold his hand.
Riley was setting the table when they walked into the kitchen and she grinned as she spoke, "I brought us a surprise." Charlie giggled and winked at Riley before she plopped down into a chair and stole another piece of cheese from the snack tray on the table.
