Who: Garret and Declan What: Talkings Where: A hallway When: Late Afternoon Rating: PG 13 Note: Lazy ass AIMscene
Garret *after using his abilities to seek out the dryad, comes up behind him in the hallway, grabs him into a corner and pins him against the wall, an arm pressed against his chest* Okay, sapling. Spill it.
Declan *Does not look very happy, is a combination of furious and depressed. Lets himself be pushed into the wall and answers quietly* Let me up, please.
Garret Not until you tell me why you're breaking phones and whatnot. I know you well enough to know that's not normal behaviour. I mean, if you were Mal, it could just be any day of the week, but you...
Declan I'm not allowed to have a temper? *Sighs roughly* Let me up, please.
Garret Um, no. Because you don't have a temper. You're like those cats that let kids pull on their tails. I think I could prune you and you'd still want to be around me.
Declan *Quiet, but tense* I'm Irish, Garret. I may hide me temper, but I have one just as sure as yer Greek.
Garret *looks him over a moment, then chuckles* I'm not, baby.
Declan I didna say ye were. Yer Greek. As in the one ye are marrying in a few weeks. From what I hear he has a foul temper.
Garret *looking directly in his eyes* Stop stalling.
Declan *Brings his hands up to gently push at Garret's arm* It's me own problem and I'll deal with it.
Garret Are you mad at me for something?
Declan *Shakes his head* No. I'm not mad at ye. I'm angry with meself.
Garret *blinks* Oh. Well... then why can't you just tell me what's up? I'm your friend, I want to help. I like helping. *gives a small, coy smile* Mostly.
Declan *Drops his head back to the wall, staring up for a moment, then looks back at Garret* Ye can't. I fucked up and I need to fix it. *Slumps back against the wall. Quiet* I just dunnae how.
Garret *frowns, then softly* Honey... it can't be that bad.
Declan Bad enough.
Garret Tell me?
Declan *Sighs and drops to the floor under Garret's arm, digging his fingers through his hair to his scalp. Just sits for a minute* Keely.
Garret *kneels in front of him, looking him over* What about her?
Declan Short version? I called her, we fought. I broke me phone.
Garret How about something a little less short?
Declan *Sighs, pulling his hands from his head, still looking at the floor between his legs* We talked. I was going ta surprise her. She told me she already had plans with Billy, and he might spend the night. I...*Groans, embarrassed* I got jealous.
Garret *thinking a moment, then slowly* He spend the night there?
Declan *Nods* He has before. She yelled at me, saying I've no right t' be jealous. Considering...*breaks off, realizing what he was about to say.*
Garret *patiently* Considering...?
Declan *Gives Garret a knowing look*
Garret *long pause, then realizing* Oh.
Declan Aye.
Garret Well... I guess.... guess she's got a point. *quiets, shifting to sit next to Dec with his back against the wall and knees bent*
Declan Aye. I've no ground t' stand on, but I cannae help how I feel. *Groans, dropping his head to his hands again* I see more of ye than I do of her, and she brought that up as well.
Garret *stays quiet*
Declan *Waits a couple minutes, just thinking. Finally speaks softly* Not much ye can do.
Garret *very softly* There is something I can do.
Declan *Frowns and looks at him*
Garret *looking at his hands* I won't be a problem for you two. I refuse to be.
Declan *Shakes his head* Yer not.
Garret Dec, this is like... the second time you've sat here beside me and not said that your friendship with me is causing you problems with Keely.
Declan *Firmly* She's not asking me t' give up me best friend here, and I willna do so. I will work out how to balance this without losing either of ye.
Garret Except, my dear sapling, you're forgettting an important detail.
Declan And that is?
Garret She actually has a reason to not want you around me anymore.
Declan *Shakes his head* She hasna asked me t' end our friendship and she won't. She's let me have me own space and just wants me t' give her tha same.
Garret *chuckles a little, shaking his head* No. Women never actually want space. What she wants is to feel like she matters to you more than I do.
Declan *Softly* She does. But ye matter, too.
Garret *sighing a little, then glancing over at him* I want you to promise me something.
Declan Depends on what I'm promising.
Garret If there ever comes a moment when Keely asks you to choose between her and me, I want you to promise me that you'll pick her. Don't even hesitate, don't tell her it isn't fair, just... pick her, okay?
Declan She won't ask.
Garret But if she ever did.
Declan *Hesitates* Only if ye promise not t' talk about not being me friend again.
Garret *quiet, then* Okay. I won't say a word about it.
Declan *Suspicious* Don't even think about it, either.
Garret You said not to talk about it.
Declan And I'm fixing an oversight. *sincerely* Ye're one of the few friends I have here. I want to lose ye as much as I want t' lose Keely.
Garret *nudging hmi gently* You're not gonna lose Keely. She loves you.
Declan And I love her. *Turns to look into his eyes* Am I going t' lose ye?
Garret *will not look back at him* I imagine so, someday. I mean everyone dies.
Declan *Reaches out and squeezes his shoulder* Not what I meant.
Garret I know.
Declan *waits patiently*
Garret *quiet still, then shifting to stand up* I gotta go. I start my shift in an hour.
Declan *Still sitting, but reaches up to grab his hand* Ye didna tell me. Why?
Garret Why what?
Declan *Stands, tugging on Garret's hand for support* Ye didna tell me what I wanted to hear. I want t' know why.
Garret *smirking slightly* Because if I always tell you what you want to hear, I'll spoil you.
Declan *Frowns* With something so simple? Ye would deny me the security of knowing I willna lose a friend?
Garret *still holding his hand, looks him over and sighs* You just want to hear that you won't lose me as a friend>
Declan *Shakes his head* I want to know and trust I willna lose ye as a friend. Me best friend.
Garret *groaning* Oh, I can't be your best friend...
Declan *Smiles and chuckles* Aye, ye are. No one else can make me laugh when I want to break another phone.
Garret But... I'm really like, the worst choice in best friends. Ask anybody. Ask Tim Schaffer!
Declan Tim Schaffer?
Garret He was my best friend in sophmore year of college, until I slept with his girlfriend. And then his twin broher.
Declan *Shrugs* Well ye already slept with me and I still like ye.
Garret I wouldn't consider it 'sleeping' with you...
Declan *Blushes slightly* Alright then. What would ye call it.
Garret Fooling around. Believe me, when I sleep with you, it's life changing. *wink*
Declan *Mutters softly in Gaelic*
Garret *leans closer, grinning* Hmmmm?
Declan *Shakes his head* Mm, nothing.
Garret Come on! You don't usually slip into tongues for nothing. Are you making fun of me in Gaelic?
Declan I said if that was fooling around, I wouldn't last through sleeping with ye.
Declan *Frowns, feeling like a cad for mentioning it*
Garret *catching the frown, offers a small smile* Since we won't be sleeping together, I mean.
Declan *still frowing* Aye, that's what you meant.
Garret It is! What difference does it make whether or not you can handle me if you won't find out? So I'm being full of myself for nothing.
Declan Not for nothing. I remember well enough.
Garret *sheepish grin* Yeah, well...
Declan *Nudges Garret* Yeah nothing.
Garret I bet Keely's better.
Declan *Sad sigh* I dunnae.
Garret *soft groan* Oh, Dec... that is so the wrong answer... You don't talk to Keely like this, do you?
Declan *Glances up, confused. Was thinking he meant Keely was less angry*
Garret *sees the confusion, laughs*
Declan What did I say?
Garret It's not so much what you said, but more how you look. Perpetually confused, like we're having two different conversations. *pats his cheeks* It's endearing.
Declan Ye were talking about Keely feeling better, aye?
Garret *shakes his head* No, love. I was talking about Keely being better at sex.
Declan Oh. Oh! *Slow grin*
Garret *laughs again* That's better.
Declan *blushes and ducks his head, still grinning*
Garret See? You're a lucky guy.
Declan She's...different from you.
Garret Of course. She's a woman, for starters
Declan Aye. Different parts. It's...interesting.
Garret *pause, staring at him with a quirked eyebrow* You say that like it might be a bad thing...
Declan No. Just noting a difference.
Garret Well if, in the future, you note this differences to Keely, make sure to use a better word than 'interesting'.
Declan And ye'd suggest.....?
Garret Tell her that her parts are beautiful.
Declan They are.
Garret Be sure to tell her that
Declan *Nods* Alright.
Declan Any other suggestions?
Garret Um.... actually, yeah. Just one.
Declan Hmm?
Garret *leans in a bit closer, lowering his voice* Make her feel like she matters to you more than anyone else ever will.
Declan *Stays still, letting Garret move close* Quite a few people matter.
Garret She has to matter more.
Declan *quietly* More than ye?
Garret *pauses a moment, then nods* More than anyone.
Declan *Nods*
Garret You need to make her feel that, sapling. She needs to feel it.
Declan *Huffs and slumps against the wall again* If she wants me back.
Garret She will. Of course she will.
Declan *scuffs his shoes, not so sure about that*
Garret *touches his chin, tilting his head up to look in his eyes* She will, Declan.
Declan Ye have more confidence than I do right now. *Sighs* I still dunna like it, but she'll hear none of it.
Garret *grabs his shoulders, shaking him a little* Listen to me, sapling. She loves you. You love her. She's mad right now and she'll be mad awhile but she will forgive you.
Declan *Looks at Garret, slightly stunned by the forces. Is NOT turned on by it. Nope. Not a little bit.* Um...*Licks lips* Suggestions for getting back into her good graces?
Garret Why is she mad at you?
Declan *Blank stare* I told ye not ten minutes ago.
Garret *firmly* Declan. Why is she mad.
Declan Because of me jealousy. And of me spending time with ye.
Garret Then you prove to her that you trust her. And spend less time with me.
Declan *Grumbles* Any way t' trust her without Billy?
Garret Do you really think she'd cheat on you? I mean, think about it. Do you really think she would?
Declan No...
Garret Then tell her that.
Declan *facepalm and groans*
Garret *pulls his hand away* Look. She thinks you don't trust her, and that's a problem because she trusts you. And she's got every right not to, but she does, doesn't she? So what you have to do is make it clear to her that you do trust her, and she's right and you were wrong, and you shouldn't have underestimated her. And then you need to tell this Billy kid to step off. You hear me?
Declan I can do the first part. But Billy's really a nice lad!
Garret If he was so nice, he wouldn't be putting the moves on your girlfriend!
Declan I dunnae even know if it's intentional.
Garret *furrowing his brow* He's been spending the night at her place. Guys don't do that.
Declan She...*Frowns, trying to remember* She said it was late, and cold. Easier than walking to 'is own place.
Garret Declan! He lives on campus!
Declan Aye. *Nods*
Garret So that's bullshit! I don't care how late it is, there is no need for him to sleep at her place.
Declan *Chuckles* Maybe ye should be th' one talking t' him.
Garret I will if you want.
Declan I...*Blinks. Not expecting that*
Garret *half laugh* I promise not to kill him.
Declan *Smiles gratefully* This is something I should do.
Garret Do you want me to?
Declan I'd say yes, but it's something I should do.
Garret You sure?
Declan No. *Chuckles and nods* Aye, I'm sure. But thank ye.
Garret Alright. But keep in mind that... if you want her to give something up, you're gonna have to too.
Declan I just want more time with her.
Garret So, make time for her. Go away for a week with her. Just be with her. That's all she wants from you, sapling. That's not so much.
Declan I never said it was.
Garret But you act like it is.
Declan I....*Groans and starts muttering and swearing in Gaelic that he can't do a damned thing right*
Garret *taps his face, almost like a slap* Oi! No.
Declan No what?
Garret No, don't do that. Don't get down on yourself.
Declan *Arches a brow* Thought ye didna speak the Old Tongue.
Garret I don't. But I know that face and I know that tone. And I know those eyes when they get clouded over.
Declan *Grumbles, leaning back against the wall and obviously pouting*
Garret *puts his hands on either side of Dec's head, leaning in to be face to face* This is what you're going to do. You're going to give her today to calm down. Then you're gonna go to her, apologize, and keep apologizing until she listens, and she's done throwing things at you and screaming. And then you're going to take her somewhere, just the two of you. For a week.
Declan *Nods, then pauses* But...how are ye going t' cover me here for a week? Ye've got yer wedding t' plan and are busy enough.
Garret Is that your problem? No, it is not. It's mine. So let me have it.
Declan *Quietly* Yer wedding is next week. I dunnae want t' miss it, if ye want me there.
Garret Of course I want you there. You don't have to leave as soon as you say you're taking her away. But let her know you will. And maybe actually plan it so you can tell her when, too.
Declan *Slowly nods* Alright.
Garret *pushes off the wall, pats his cheek again* Good. Go plan, think of something brilliant. I'm going to get you time off. You just worry about Keely and make her feel amazing, okay?
Declan *Would kiss Garret, but knows that crosses lines, settles for giving him a "manly" hug* Thank ye, Garret.*Pulls back, ready to try and figure this out*
Garret Any time, sapling. *winks, turns and walks off*
