Who: Nox and Belle
When: Sunday night
Where: their apartment
What: they’re having a baby and FREAKING OUT!
Nox and Belle had hardly moved. Honestly, they could barely manage to get out of bed for a small bit of food and water and occasional trips to the bathroom, many of them made for the purpose of vomiting. But while being sick was strange, what was happening to Belle was even more curious. Even though she couldn’t keep food down, she really wanted to eat. Eating was something she only did socially, because her body didn’t require it. It seemed the food she was able to keep down was causing her to fill out as well. By the time Charlie came to see them Sunday morning with a much needed cure, Belle had a bit of a gut, and when Nox was feeling a little better, he noticed her breasts had grown some as well.
As the medicine brought them back from the brink of death, and they slowly rebounded throughout the day, much of their time was spent cleaning up around the apartment. The place was a HAZMAT site from all the vomiting and poor hygiene. Nox insisted on washing everything, and he even took two showers.
Eventually, Nox felt like he and the apartment were tolerable, and he settled down on the sofa, stretching his legs out along its length. “I really hope classes are canceled tomorrow. Even though we’ve spent days in bed, I’m exhausted.”
---
This whole experience had been incredibly distressing for Belle. Even though she had seen some gruesome things, and spent most of her life dealing with sick people in one capacity or another, she hated seeing Nox this ill when she knew he absolutely shouldn’t be, not to mention the fact she was just as bad, if not worse. Being sick was horrible! She suddenly had a lot more respect for people who complained about it and made a fuss! The elemental was almost thankful for the fact she had spent the majority of the time passed out, at least it was some escape.
It took until the medicine made her feel half alive and she decided to take a (VERY hot) shower for Belle to really notice how much her body had changed in the last week. There was a definite stomach there, and no matter how much she tried to suck it in it wouldn’t budge. How the hell could she put on weight when she had barely kept anything in her body?!? Hell, she shouldn’t even be able to put weight on at all! She was a created being, not a human, or even partially human! She’d even put on weight to her boobs. It was weeeeird. Panicking wouldn’t do anything though, so she put it out of her mind and concentrated on the mammoth task of cleaning the apartment with Nox, glad he was recovering so well.
Once the apartment was finally somewhat in order (and sprayed to make sure there was no trace of vomit smell), she made two cups of tea, hoping the small amount of caffeine in it would perk them up after everything had still zapped their energy. “Ergh! I couldn’t do classes tomorrow. I’m cancelling mine no matter what.” Belle pouted, bringing one mug to Nox and making him move his legs for a second so she could sit down with him and her own cup of tea, holding it close for the heat to contribute to her own body heat, which was now thankfully coming back to normal for her. “I am never dismissing someone’s misery at being ill ever agai-” She cut off, frowning and rubbing her stomach where the mug had been. Guess she wasn’t that much better.
---
Nox looked up when Belle came over with tea. A big smile broke out on his face. “If I weren’t a demon, and you weren’t created by an alchemist, I’d say you were heaven sent.” He took the tea, and, despite it being a little too hot to drink, he took a sip anyway. He needed the caffeine.
With Belle settled, Nox stretched his legs out over her lap. The only plus side to the past few days of being ill was all the time spent together. Nox was happier when he had some sort of physical contact with Belle. But he noticed her frown and the way she didn’t finish her sentence. “Still?” he asked. “Charlie said the cure would make us get better... I hope it’s not lingering for you.”
---
“Maybe a gift from fate.” She joked with a wink. “You must have done something very right. That or I’m buttering you up for some reason. You should be careful.” If they were a stereotypical couple she’d say he should be worrying about his wallet, but Belle could buy most things herself. She had enough money.
She really wished she had covered it up better. The last thing the elemental wanted was for Nox to be worrying about her. “It’s probably nothing, a little reminder my stomach isn’t back to normal yet. Weird feeling though.” Belle smiled reassuringly, sipping her tea. “Almost like a soft jab from inside.”
---
“I don’t think I have anything to worry about with you. You’ve seen me at my worst and are still here. I don’t know of any other woman in my life, other than Katie, who would stick around through that.” Of course, Belle was violently ill as well, so she couldn’t actually leave, but she was still here now. She must love him plenty.
Nox moved his feet off her lap and sat up, putting his mug on the coffee table at the same time. He scooted over to Belle, wrapping an arm around her. “You’re warming up. Perhaps it just takes more time. Charlie said we might not be fully recovered for a few days. Your stomach gave you so much trouble through this whole ordeal, that maybe it’s slow to respond to the cure.” He kissed her cheek and pulled her into his embrace.
---
Belle laughed at that. “I was a nurse. If sick people or vomit made too much of a difference to me I never would have made it this far.... or gone back to it time and time again. Being madly in love with you doesn’t hurt though, or the fact you put up with me looking like death too.” If they could survive this they could survive almost anything else.
Leaning into his arms, she nodded in agreement with his idea. “I was feeling kind of sick before the virus hit too, so maybe that makes it even worse.” Belle suggested before pulling out of his embrace enough to put her own tea down then return to him, turning her head to kiss him properly. It was nice to be able to do that again. “It will be nice to feel normal again though, and for this bloating to go away.”
---
“Madly in love, or just plain mad. I can’t determine which is the case, but I’m happy to reap the benefits in the meantime.” Belle was everything to Nox. He’d never been so happy in his life. Even when they were miserable, he was happy that he was at least with her through it all.
He looked concerned. But the frown was forced from his face when she turned to kiss him. It was the first proper kiss they shared in days, and the medicine seemed to be working quite well, because he felt a stirring inside from the sensation of her lips pressed against his. “What bloating?” he asked her before going in for another kiss. He had noticed the weight around her midsection, but she was still the most stunning woman he’d ever laid eyes on. She could put on another twenty pounds, and he’d still worship her. Nox put his hand to her stomach then, rubbing it softly. That’s when he felt a little bump against his hand.
Immediately, Nox pulled back from the cuddling. “Okay.. what was that?” He looked down at her stomach. “It felt like something moving inside your abdomen.”
---
Mmm now this was much better than everything that had just been through. As exhausted as she was, and she knew he was, Belle did wonder just how much energy they could summon tonight in order to make the most of not being so ill. What? They were newlyweds. It was normal, right? Unfortunately it was interrupted by that little ‘jab’ again, making her frown. It seemed she wasn’t the only one though, and that worried her even more as she watched Nox freak out. “You felt that?!?” Belle asked in surprise, biting her lip. “That’s..... that’s.... no...” Slowly a thought started to form in her head, the nausea, the ‘bloating’, the strange fluttering popping feelings while she was ill, and now the jabbing... No. No, no way! It couldn’t be.
---
Nox was staring at Belle’s stomach as though any moment now he’d witness a scene from the movie Alien. Was something going to burst forth and kill them all? What if the virus had done something terrible to Belle? “Should I call Wes?” he asked. The alarm was clear in his voice and eyes. The obvious wasn’t all that obvious to him at the moment, because it was impossible. Belle was sick. Something was wrong with her. It needed to be fixed.
---
Yes! That was what Belle wanted to shout. She wanted to know what the hell was going on, wanted someone to tell her she was wrong. “No... we can.. find him tomorrow. I’m sure he’s got his hands full already.” She said though, but she looked worried still and was holding her hands to her stomach. She couldn’t tell Nox what she was thinking, just incase he got it into his head it could be true and it would be a disappointment when Wes said she wasn’t. Oh shit...
---
Nox wasn’t quite ready to give up on the idea of calling Wes. What if this was an emergency situation? But Belle didn’t seem to feel ill otherwise. It was her stomach.. and something inside her stomach. There was a little twitch in the back of Nox’s brain. Something in her stomach. The vomiting. The food cravings. The weight gain. But that was insanity. It couldn’t happen. Nox knew it couldn’t. It had been his only reservation in marrying Belle, but in the end he loved her too much to not be with her over something like that. He had Katie, and he and Belle would adopt one day. It didn’t matter that she couldn’t have children. His hand went to her belly again, rubbing over it. The response was the same as before, and Nox was just as alarmed. “That’s not possible. Right?”
---
Nox was an intelligent man, she should have figured he’d think of the same thing she had even without her saying anything about it. Belle was relying on the fact he was also a logical man to stop him stopping on the idea. No such luck, especially not when they got a repeat performance from him rubbing her stomach. “I don’t.... know? I’ve heard rumors.... but....I didn’t think it was possible. Just... myth.” No no no, this was not happening. She could already feel herself wishing it was true, and.... wait, wishing... “I wished for it. A few weeks ago, when all those.... shit. When the wishes were coming true....”
---
Nox was far too logical, and he knew just about everything there was to know about every supernatural race. This was not possible. Belle was an elemental. She could no sooner have children than a vampire could. And then she informed him that she had wished for it. Nox sat back and stared at her stomach hard then. Wishes were different. Humans thought they were harmless, but supernaturals knew better. Wishes really could come true. And, as was the case more often than not, those wishes were twisted around into something terrible that you didn’t really want. “What exactly did you wish for, Belle? The wording is critical here.” It was hard saying what was growing inside her. If she hadn’t said something properly, a dijnn could manipulate the words to create a frightening outcome. She might have a parasite in there!
---
There was too much going on in her mind for Belle to really have thought through all the implications of wishes and what could be going on. It had only just occured to her that it might be part of how they got to this situation, but when Nox mentioned that the wording was critical and asked her to repeat it she realised this could be something really bad. “I don’t know! It’s been a few weeks and it was just an idle wish!” BelleShe panicked, trying to think what exactly she had said. “We were in bed. You’d just fallen asleep I think and I was looking over at you, and I said... I said....I wish....” She growled in frustration, putting her hands to her head, then it suddenly came to her. “I said ‘I wish I could give him a baby of our own one day...’” She blurted out triumphantly. That didn’t sound like it could have warped too much.... but what if it had? Then just to add to it another thought occured to her. “That was only, what, three weeks ago though? How could I be this far along already? If I am... pregnant. Wow that feels odd to say...”
---
It was odd hearing it as well. Pregnant. Nox had never expected that word to come from Belle’s mouth in reference to herself. Of course, it was something he’d dreamed about, but it wasn’t meant to be. He’d fallen in love with someone who couldn’t have children, and that was okay. Considering how much he’d wanted more kids, it was strange how terrified he was by this potential miracle.
The rest of Belle’s words were a small comfort. It didn’t seem like anyone could twist what she’d said into something else. “So you specified baby.. and that it should be our baby.” That was good. Otherwise she could be growing something else in there that didn’t belong to either one of them.
“I don’t know how you could be this far along. I don’t really see how any of this is possible at all, even with the wish. Belle, you don’t..” he didn’t want to point out that there might be parts missing, because it seemed rather rude. “I’m sorry, this is...” Nox was so out of sorts, which wasn’t like him at all. He wasn’t handling this news as he should have. He took a few deep breaths and closed his eyes for a moment. “We shouldn’t get excited yet. But we shouldn’t worry either. We just need to figure out what’s going on. Until we have confirmation, there’s no sense in going over all the what ifs, right?” Because if Nox allowed himself to be happy about this, it was bound to turn ugly.
---
Belle didn’t blame him at all for being completely thrown by everything going on. They were only just starting to get over the virus and the whole weirdness of that, and then this came along and made the idea of a virus that only affects supernaturals look positively mundane in comparison. It was odd to see Nox like this though. It might be fun in other circumstances, ones where she wasn’t so confused and thrown herself, but right now Belle just nodded along with his words, forcing herself to take her hands away from her stomach and take deep breaths. “Right. We can talk to Wes tomorrow, find out what is happening. Tonight we should just... try to relax. Recover from the virus.” That sounded sensible, but she wasn’t sure she could stop thinking about it and the what ifs. It was almost like now the thought had occured to her she knew it was true. Somehow she could just... feel it.
---
Nox realized how poorly he was handling the situation as he looked at Belle more carefully. She was worried, probably scared. Pulling her into his arms, he kissed the top of her head. “I don’t want to get my hopes up.. or yours. It means the world to me that you wished for that. That you want us to be able to have a child together. It would be the greatest gift imaginable. But we’re happy as we are, and if things stay like this for the rest of our years together, I’ll still consider myself the luckiest man alive. Loving you is enough.”
---
Of course she was worried and scared. This shouldn’t be happening! She had thought about it and wished it could happen so many times since she met Nox, but it wasn’t something she thought would ever happen. When he echoed her concerns about them getting their hopes up and having them dashed Belle teared up anyway, but then he continued, being unbelievably sweet and reminding her why she loved him so much, as if she could ever forget, and the tears started to spill over. Climbing onto his lap, she kissed him again. “I love you more than you could possibly know Nox Alekos.” She managed to get out before kissing him again.
---
Nox didn’t like that she was crying, but he gladly pulled her closer to him when she climbed onto his lap. “I love you, too. More than I can put into words.” He couldn’t help the what ifs. They filled his head. “If you are carrying our child.. I can’t even express what that would mean to me.” It would be like some sort of reward. They both had been through plenty, and in a way, both had made sacrifices for the love they felt. Maybe this was fate’s way of paying them back for having that kind of faith in one another. “You’d be the world’s most fantastic mother.”
---
Oh no, she had infected him with the what ifs. It didn’t help that the more he spoke the more she wished and prayed and begged in her mind for it to be true, and for her to really be having his baby. Belle wasn’t sure she could think of anyone who deserved and needed to be a father as much as Nox. “I’d say you would be the world’s fantastic father, but you already are. If we ARE pregnant, this baby is the luckiest baby to ever exist having you.” A smile showed that even though she was crying, she was incredibly happy right now, as she pressed herself to him. Obviously the baby agreed because she felt another kick and she laughed, moving one hand to her stomach.
---
Belle was just as deserving. The alchemist who created her was a selfish pig, disgusting beyond anything Nox felt comfortable saying out loud. He thought it though. Often. The man had given life to something that he regarded as nothing more than elaborate toy. He had no real love for her. He didn’t consider what it would be like for her to live forever, or how it might feel, as a woman, to never experience motherhood. If this was true, then all elementals would be jealous. Nox knew Belle was special, but this would be proof positive. “I hope it’s true.. but if it’s not,” he added with hesitation, “I think maybe we should look into adopting sooner than we’ve discussed.” The hope they both felt right now made it clear that they were ready. They wanted a child right now, and Nox was determined to make that happen one way or another.
He kissed her again after she laughed and put his hand over hers on her belly. “If we have a girl...” that was an even bigger if than the rest, “Could we name her Danielle?”
---
It was best Nox didn’t vocalise his dislike of her creator, or the things he thought about the man. Peter still held a special place in her heart even though he had been dead for longer than she ever knew him. Of course Belle knew that her husband didn’t like the idea of why she was created, but she couldn’t quite explain to him why it wasn’t as depraved as he saw it, or how much better Peter was than other alchemists in those days and days since. Instead they just avoided the subject as much as possible, and that worked for the most part.
He had a point.... they were obviously more ready to be parents than they realised. Maybe it was time to look into adoption seriously if this turned out to be some elaborate hoax or went wrong. She was almost certain that this was their little miracle though. It was weird how sure she was when it should be impossible, but telling herself everything was an ‘if’ not a ‘when’ was becoming a lot harder with every passing moment. Nox brought her back to reality though with his question and her eyes sparkled with sadness, compassion and love for him all at the same time. “I think Danielle sounds like the perfect name if we have a girl...” She whispered, kissing him very softly, hormones making her cry all over again, softly. “Perfect.”
---
Nox couldn’t help but think about that night when Danielle came over to the apartment when Belle was there. Awkward didn’t even begin to describe it, but despite all the trouble that girl put Nox through, he really did love her. Her death was a horrible tragedy, one that should have never happened, but he liked to think that he’d made her life slightly better in the short time they’d known one another. She was a bright young woman who had been under-appreciated. If she’d been loved and cherished from the start, perhaps things would have turned out differently. It seemed fitting to him that her name be given to any daughter they might have. She deserved a second chance. “Thank you,” he whispered, cupping her face and kissing her again. It meant a lot to him that Belle understood without an explanation.
---
Belle remembered the night Dizzy turned up at his apartment too. It was the first time she really met the girl, and even though there had been conflict between the younger girl and Nox, it had left Belle wanting to get to know her better, to be there for her in whatever way she could, even if it was in the background as someone she could hide out with or bitch at. It was unfair how Dizzy’s life was cut short, and even to this day, with everything Belle had seen, and the little she knew her, the elemental carried a sadness about her death. It seemed fitting and right to keep a little piece of her this way, if they did have a daughter of their own.” Good men must die, but death cannot kill their names." She quoted simply. “I like the idea of her living on in this...” Oh how she hoped that she was pregnant and that the baby was a girl.
---
Nox smiled at the quotation. “Your brilliance is so incredibly sexy.” Honestly, it was what turned him on the most. Belle was physically attractive, yes, absolutely, but he never would have fallen in love with her if not for her quick wit and thirst for knowledge.
“We’re getting ahead of ourselves. No more baby talk until after you’ve seen Wesley. Agreed?” That would be difficult, and he’d still be thinking about it, but he didn’t want to get his hopes up more than he already had. Right now, he’d be a wreck if it all turned out to be some elaborate prank. Of course, they’d fall back on their earlier plans to adopt eventually, but this was a dream come true, and he didn’t want to wake up.
---
It was hard but.... “Agreed.” She nodded, smiling at him. Poor poor Wesley was getting an early visit tomorrow, because not knowing for sure was going to drive her mad, and if it was true Belle had so many questions for him! “Of course... you might need to find something else to stop me talking about it tonight...” She teased, kissing his neck and then along his jawline. Tea and sleep was practically forgotten by now.
---
An eyebrow raised over Nox’s left eye. Well then. He wasn’t expecting that tonight. They were still in recovery mode. But he felt strangely energized by this insane and wonderful development in their lives (though he kept saying to hold off and be patient and wait until it was official). Belle in his lap, then Belle’s lips on his neck and jawline. He slid his hands down her body. She was already sitting in his lap, so he simply scooped her up and carried her to their bedroom. It was harder than he remembered it being, probably because he didn’t have all of his strength back yet. But, regardless, they made it it one piece!
