Nico took care of the tickets because he wanted to. And he bought whatever Lyle wanted from the concession stand as well. Clearly he was just pleased that he actually had the means to treat him even if it was technically Lyle's money that he was treating him with.
Once they were finally headed into the dark and mostly empty theater, Nico asked, "You ever seen a Chaplin film before?" If he hadn't, it would be a real treat. The man was a comedic genius. And this was coming from a man who really didn't have a particular flavor for comedy.
