The entire concept of courting seemed completely idiotic. Why spend time with someone for something more than mating? Sure, June spoke to others in Hades, others whom she had no intention of making offspring with. But mostly they fought, to keep themselves strong. There seemed no reason to keep a male around for other reasons, especially not one who acted the way Nox said that human (and apparently demon) females liked them to.
"Oh." She could not say she was disappointed (because she was not), but she couldn't say she was pleased, either. If he wasn't choosing her, then there was something unsatisfactory about her. After pausing another moment, in which it seemed he would not go inside until she did, June walked into the building, her head kept down as she pondered more. She was not a human, or a demon female, so why did he do things that human and demon men did for the women topside? Perhaps because it pleased him, it made him feel a superior male. That made sense.
"Do humans mate for life?" There were many conflicting theories amongst the hounds, some saying that yes, humans stipudly chose one mate and stayed with them forever. Some said no, humans did nothing but fornicate and damage themselves, sometimes both simultaneously. Nox had been topside long enough to know which was true.
