June had trained herself, and hard, because she had wanted to live up to the standards that her lineage had placed upon her. She did not want to be the one of the line that everyone remembered as the weakling, the one that could not keep up with her breeding. She had been the best in her ranks through sheer force of will and determination. And now, since her lineage had been sullied, she was determined not to be assosciated with that weakness.
The invitation brought forth a great conflict in June, one that clearly played out on her face. Nox was asking her, inviting her as a guest, to accompany him. But she did not know how to respond as company, only as a slave. She wanted to tell him that she would go if he wished her to go, but she knew that he had asked her to think for herself and not follow orders given to her while she was here. She wanted to please him and do as he asked, but he was not asking anything of her but her own wants, and she did not know how to express her own wants to a master. She wasn't sure she had her own wants except to please a master. Worse still, he was giving her choices on whatever HE would prepare for HER. So she had to make the decision to go along with him as an equal and not be subserviant to him, which she did not want to do but she knew would please him, and then she had to make a choice that would have him serving her, which she also did not want but again, would please him.
".....Yes?" she said finally, daring to look up into his eyes for the briefest second, clearly unsure in her response, and shying away slightly in case it was wrong.
