Who: Jason and Blue
What: Delivering presents
Where: Jason's room
When: Late afternoon
Rating: PG
Blue was very excited to give Jason his present! She had thought hard about what guys liked, and this was definitely something that boys liked. Grinning and skipping, a plastic bag clutched in her hand, Blue knocked on Jason's door, her hair tied back in a low ponytail. "Hey!" she smiled brightly when he opened the door. "I'm so excited to show you your present!"
Flouncing past him, she set the bag on his bed and pulled out his present- an authentic Japanese school outfit. For a girl. "Do you love it!!!" she squealed, holding it out. "I hope I got the right size! I'm not sure about your chest size, and Japanese girls have small boobs so I hope it's wide enough..."
Jason put up an away message and proceeded to knock his head against his desk a couple times. He had a minute until Blue arrived. Was he looking forward to seeing her? Of course. The gift? He wasn't sure. She had an interesting habit of taking something quite ordinary and turning it into a potentially embarrassing situation. Jason just hadn't figured out yet if it was intentional or purely accidental.
Turning in his seat, he smiled at her when the door opened. "Hey Bluebell!" The greeting was genuine, since he truly had missed her while she was gone. "Did you have fun in Japan?" He came to his feet as he rifled through the bag and then stared at it, his mind immediately going to just how Cassie would look in it. Sexy.
Wait, what? He heard Blue mention his chest size and frowned, looking at it again. "What? Wide enough? Why would you need to know if it's wide enough?" And there was that sinking feeling in his stomach. This wasn't a gift for him to give Cassie.
---
Holding it up to Jason's chest, Blue grinned, pleased. "Cuz it's for you, of course!" Boys always looked sexy in skirts, and Jason had great legs. And boys loved school girl outfits, and they had a preference for Japanese girls for some reason, so it seemed perfect! "I dunno about the color, but that's what they had. I didn't get stockings because, well... why would you wanna cover your legs? They're so hot!"
---
Jason frowned, taking the shirt and pulling it down gently. "Blue, I don't wear skirts. It's a cute outfit, yes, but not for guys. We typically like to see women in them." How on earth was he supposed to get out of this situation without upsetting her? It was always impossible.
---
Cocking her head slightly and putting her hands on her hips, Blue frowned at Jason. "Have you ever worn a skirt?" she asked him flatly. "So how do you know that you don't wear them? Maybe you look amazing in them and you don't even know! I think it's very unfair of you to make a decision without even giving it a try." Face determined and firm, she held out the outfit to him.
---
"I might look amazing in them, but they're not my thing, Blue." He took the outfit and draped it over the chair. "I don't crossdress, and I don't wear skirts," he said gently. This was going to turn into a disaster. He just knew it.
---
The frown on the little vampire's lips turned into a small, soft pout. "You never trust me," she said, hopping up onto his bed and taking a seat. "Every time I introduce a new idea, you resist it with all your might and then I have to beg and cajole and sometimes manipulate you to get you to say yes. And then you usually have a really good time, and later you say 'Yes, that was fun.' And then you tell me that you do trust me, but you don't. Not really." Shrugging a little, she let her feet swing as they hung over the edge of the bed. Her eyes were wide as she looked over him, studying him. "I just wish that maybe one time you'd just accept that maybe, sometimes, I know what I'm talking about."
---
Jason sighed. Well at least she wasn't in tears at this point. "If you'd bought the outfit for someone else, sure, it would've been fine. Halloween even, I could understand. But this? I don't wear skirts, Blue." Jason leaned back against his desk, resting his hips on the edge. "Why do you think I would?"
---
Letting her gaze fall, Blue twirled her hair over her shoulder, twisting the ends. "I don't think you wear them, not like every day," she said quietly. "I just thought, maybe one time... cuz boys usually look really hot in skirts, and I thought you would too cuz... you're all... muscles and stuff..." Her voice faded to a mumble, trailing off. "Anyway. Doesn't matter. If you don't like it, you don't like it. Your girlfriend can probably fit in it, that should make you happy."
---
Jason sighed, coming over to kneel at her feet, putting him just below her eye level. "I appreciate the thought. I really do. It's just," he paused, raising his hands helplessly and dropping them to her knees. "Not my thing. But thank you." He didn't know how to fix this. He didn't want to wear it just to make her happy, because he always caved. Hell, with Blue he already felt like he wore the skirt. Everytime he put his foot down on something she'd wheedle until she got her way. Not this. He couldn't do this, even something so small.
---
With a shrug, Blue tossed her hair over her shoulder. "It's fine." She even gave a small, half genuine smile, to show him that it was fine. It wasn't really, but it didn't matter. Pushing his hands off her knees, she scooted back further on his bed, curling herself up. "So. Tell me more about England and stuff. What was her family like? Were they nice?"
---
Having her shove him away hurt more than he cared to admit to. Frowning, he dropped his gaze, trying to process the switch and figure out how he could fix this. Even putting the skirt on -which he wouldn't do- wouldn't solve it. Sighing, he dropped to sit on the floor, deliberately keeping her placed higher than him. "Uh yeah. They were nice. It was fun. Her family's kinda rowdy, but very open."
---
"Oh, that sounds good!" Rowdy families were hard to jump right into, but they were easier to spend time with. Quiet families were boring and made you feel uncomfortable, like maybe they were being quiet because of you. "If they were being like that, then that probably means they like you because they weren't shy about being themselves in front of you. And if they like you then that's good, because then being with her will be easier." Her fingers fidgeted with her hair again, twisting it into a loose braid. "I'm glad you guys had fun. Japan was really nice too. Beautiful. Everyone talked very fast though."
---
Jason nodded, leaning forward to rest his head on his mattress. "Yeah. They were very welcoming. Really awesome and included me in everything even though they didn't really know me." He watched her eyes when she talked about Japan, noting that they didn't light up as usual. He started mentally kicking himself for doing that to her. Again. "Did you understand them?" He didn't know she spoke Japanese. "Or was it just very confusing?"
---
"I know a little bit." Blue gave a small nod, as though confirming her own statement. "Lily Cole had a shoot there in 2004, and she tried picking up some basic stuff. So I can ask where the front desk is, and if you speak English, things like that. But mostly it's just confusing. Even when they speak English they have thick accents and I'm really bad with accents." Her eyes and hands were busy on her hair, the strands back in their old red hue. She was doing her best to be nonchalant and not look at Jason, not because she was mad at him, but because she was trying her best not to react how she wanted to react to disappointment. She wanted to cry, or storm out. But Mal had told her she needed to let him see her as a grown up, and Blue remembered how her mother had always acted in disappointment- she acted like everything was fine and kept a smile on her face, and she pushed through and never mentioned it again. And that's what Blue intended to do.
"I sent you a postcard while I was there. I knew that it wouldn't get here until after I got back, but it was really pretty so I wanted to send it. And everyone likes getting mail, so I thought you wouldn't mind." Of course, he'd probably bring it back to her and tell her that he didn't "do" postcards, but he appreciated the thought.
---
Jason nodded, fully understanding how accents made it difficult sometimes. He remembered a couple transfers kids that were international students back in high school. It was frustrating and embarrassing that he had to constantly ask them to repeat what they said so he could translate.
"Oh cool! I like postcards. It's like being able to take pictures of places without actually going." The smile he gave her was genuine. He really did like postcards. They were fun and easy mementos of a place. "I don't mind at all."
---
Smiling back, Blue met his eyes, briefly. "Good. Then you can consider it your souvenier." She'd like him to have something that he actually liked. She should have known better, and just got him something generic and simple. Jason liked simple. He liked normal. She remembered that about him, how his pack had never really accepted him, and all he'd wanted was to fit in somewhere. And he probably fit in nicely with Cassie's family, it probably made him feel very normal.
---
It was difficult for Jason, trying so hard to fit in when he was an obvious misfit. Sure he looked pretty normal, but to his pack, what mattered was blood and his wasn't pure enough. Even half bloods were preferable to him. Somedays he felt like a bad Harry Potter character, just waiting for someone to scream "mudblood" at him.
But he didn't have to worry about that with Blue. She didn't care about the mix. She actually liked his coyote and his vampire which was one of the reasons she was so endearing. "Thanks," he smiled, more because he was happy she was home than the switch in gifts.
---
"No problem." Chewing on her bottom lip, she sat quietly a moment, wiggling her bare toes on the bedspread. "Well... guess I should get going. I've got some stuff I need to take care of and things, and you're probably busy." He probably had plans with Cassie or something, or maybe homework to do. Scooting off the bed, she landed with a soft thump on the floor, then straightened out her tee shirt. She didn't want to be a bother to him, she had already bothered him enough. Grabbing the plastic bag that the uniform had come in, she bunched it up in her hand, then looked at the garment laying on the back of the chair. "You gonna give it to Cassie?" she asked. "Or should I take it?"
---
Jason scooted back, giving Blue room to stand before he got to his own feet. "You don't have to. Only thing I'm doing is laundry to catch up from break." There was no homework assigned since classes hadn't started, so all he was doing was relaxing. "You're welcome to stay." At the change of topic, he paused, looking at the outfit. Cassie would look awesome in it, assuming it'd fit. He was a bit bigger than her. "Um, would you mind if I gave it to her?" If it would upset Blue, he'd find something else to do with it.
---
Forcing an easy smile, Blue shrugged. "I gave it to you, you can do whatever you like with it. I just thought, if you didn't want it cluttering things up..." Letting the end of the sentence fall, she shrugged again. "I hope it fits her. And if not, it can be taken in. Wouldn't be hard. And then you can enjoy it." Ugh, this really sucked. The words almost tasted bad in her mouth. Was this really what people did? On television and in movies, you always saw people being friends with someone they wanted to be with, and even though it hurt them they still went through with it. But did they all feel as sick as Blue felt right now, having to be happy for their friend and another person? Why would anyone do this to themselves?
"Maybe we can hang out sometime, if you're not too busy or something. I bet you haven't done anything fang related in awhile, and you should. You were doing really well, last time I saw anyway. But it's been awhile so... maybe you're fine with it."
---
Jason nodded. "Yeah, we'll make it work. Thanks." He could tell, just feel that Blue wasn't happy. She felt almost anxious to leave. She wasn't bubbly and bouncy like normal. Had he done something wrong? Jason figured he should give her an out, let her do whatever it is she felt she needed to do. "Sure. That sounds fun. I haven't done anything recently, so I should probably get back into practice." It still felt weird for him, but he was learning.
---
Twisting the bag in her hand, Blue said in a small little voice, "Cool." She didn't want to want to leave. She wanted to stay here, hang out like they used to do. But everything felt different now. It felt like she couldn't flirt with him anymore because he had a girlfriend, and she couldn't push his boundaries and cuddle and touch him and do anything that they used to do because he would tell her no. Because he'd always told her no before, when things were getting a little too far but now he would tell her no just because he wasn't allowed to do things anymore. Because he had a girlfriend now. She'd never stayed friends when a guy got a girlfriend and now it was obvious why- it sucked.
"Well... bye." She gave him a small wave and walked to the door, not offering a hug like usual, or anything like that. Pausing at the door, she looked back at him. "You and Cassie could probably like, go to dens and things. You know... together. And she could help you and stuff." Cassie probably had no inkling of an idea how this stuff worked, or what she would need to do, but maybe they could learn it together. Like a couple.
---
Jason frowned, shaking his head slightly. He didn't understand. "I thought going to the dens was our thing?" Blue was obviously upset, but he couldn't figure out why. Was the skirt really so important to her?
---
A tiny, almost imperceiveable smile graced the little vamp's lips. They had a thing. She had thought he went with her because she was the one who offered to go with him, but now that he had Cassie, he'd want to go with her instead. He'd stayed glued to Cassie's side when they three of them had gone, and Blue hadn't seemed to matter much that trip. She thought it was a couple thing now. "I thought you'd want to take Cassie now, since she's your girl." Maybe he just didn't want Cassie watching him do that stuff. It made sense- he didn't really like doing it, why would he want his normal perfect girlfriend to watch him do it? "But we could go, if you want. Whatever you want to do."
---
Jason caught the smile, and gave one in return. It was the first genuine one for awhile and he was glad to see it. She was acting a bit strange but he couldn't figure out why. Shrugging, he replied, "That may be, but I've always thought of it as something with just us. I kinda like it that way for now." Hearing the second part, he grinned. "Does that mean I can watch you mudwrestle again?"
---
With a soft laugh, she offered a shrug of her own. "It might be a little cold, but sure, I could do that. Though I remember you didn't want to do that when I suggested it either." She offered him a wry smirk, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Or you could track me in the woods again, that was pretty fun too. I liked trying to hide."
---
Jason grinned and chuckled. "Yeah that was fun. It's bloody cold out, but we could still do that. Makes it easier for me to track you," he teased. He was starting to relax, to feel like maybe things weren't so awkward between them.
---
Wrinkling her mouth, Blue thought for a moment before answering. "How?" she wondered. "I mean, you can't hear or see my breath, and I'm cold so it's not like you can feel where I left heat... I wonder how it would be different..."
---
Jason tapped his nose. "Your scent. It lays on the ground easier. Snow could cover it, but we don't really have any right now." Not to mention Blue was a vampire. She smelled like death. Coyotes were scavengers and death was a sweet draw to his nose.
---
"Oh." Well, it made some sense. After all, in the winter everything was still, it just sat there, dead and depressed. Spring was when things started moving again. "Okay. Well, we could do that. I'll keep my clothes on this time. Maybe that will make it harder. Or easier."
---
Jason nodded, happy they'd managed to come to some agreement. "We'll have to see. I mean, your clothes carry your scent, so I can track them just as easily as you." It didn't make it any stronger, just there. He smiled down at her, thinking maybe they'd worked through this.
---
Boys were so oblivious. Just the way Jason looked at her, the way he smiled... Blue knew that he had no idea what was wrong, if he had even thought that anything was wrong. Boys were so silly sometimes, Blue wondered why she bothered with them. Especially this one. There was nothing so spectacular about Jason West that she should feel so stuck on him. Sometimes he was downright infuriating.
"I know," she said simply. "I remember." She wondered if he did things with Cassie like he had done with her, and she thought about all the things he did do with Cassie that he never would with her. Her smile faded again. "Well, let me know. I'll see you later." And then she left, before he could keep her there any longer, before she felt sadder or, even worse, he got a clue.
