Alan swallowed at the sight of them, jaw clenched as he swallowed, almost preparing. His son seemed so resolute that everything would be okay. It was something he had never wanted to do. "I didn't - want to tell you on the phone..."
Tiger's eyes fell into a frown and he stepped forwards, desperate. He knew that look, knew that tone - everything about it was so fucking familiar to him but he couldn't think of that. Not now, because it wasn't true. "Dad. Where's Mom." It wasn't a question, more of a demand, which made it all the worse for Alan to form a reply to him.
"Your mother - took too many pills today," was the reply, voice trembling. "She - " No other words came but they didn't have to. Tiger could see his Dad's heart break just by looking at him and he instantly fell forwards, wrapping his arms around him as he hugged him for dear life. It wasn't true, of course, what he was implying. His Mom was just down the hall, ready to come out and give them all a hug and apologise for making them worry. There was no way what Alan thought was true, could be true. So Tiger would comfort him during this belief.
