They really were acting like a family. Mal smiled for a moment before he remembered that he already had a family, back in Hades. He shuddered slightly, thinking about what would happen if he was found out. Steeling his resolve, he huffed gently. He'd just make sure he wasn't found out. "A pineapple, huh? Weirdest thing I've ever heard."
Garret felt that shudder and smiled a little, assuming that he was to blame. And so he leaned into the embrace, forgetting the way Mal had chided him early about the affection. If Mal didn't like being touched, he shouldn't have been so damn sexy. "What's really weird is the squirrel," he said matter-of factly. "Sandy!" Max shouted, for a second coming out from beneath Rorie's chin to yell properly. He went back though as soon as he was finished. Pausing a moment, Garret continued. "Right, Sandy. She's a scientist and wears a bubble helmet and lived in a tree in a dome. Under the water." He paused again, then said (softer) "This would be a lot better stoned."
Laughing as he just wrapped his arms around Max and rocking him a bit as they watched, he loved being close to Max like this. To just hug and waller and play with. It was nice. Even if the cartoon they were watching was kinda weird and made Rorie think too much about why the starfish wore only trunk and the sponge had a short sleeved button up and shorts with a tie. "It's my first time really watching this too, by the way."
Mal arched a brow at Garret. "Should I be concerned that you know so much about this show?" Given what was happening on screen, Mal could agree that it would probably be a lot better when flying. At least Max seemed to be enjoying himself. Of course, with the way the pup was involved with the characters, Mal couldn't help but wonder if he could sneak in some private time with the man under his arm.
"Maybe a little," Garret admitted. He had certainly picked up a lot from watching half of one episode. But it wormed its way into your brain and the theme song would be in his head all day, he knew it. Leaning his head back, Garret looked up at Mal, resting against his shoulder. "Maybe you and pipsqueak could come see the houses today?" he offered. "I can call the real estate agent to let us in, or we can just go in the old fashioned way..." That would be breaking and entering.
Rorie sat contently, letting his mind wander a bit to if he fed Pete or not before he left. Damn it. At least he won't starve. He usually knew if he didn't get fed he had his toys that were full of treats he was usually too lazy to get out. Though Max might have raided them because Rorie seemed unable to refill the pup's toy's fast enough before going after the older dog's. Oh well. He'd be back in a bit. He was kinda tired anyway and could happily curl around Max and go to sleep, he was even nodding off a bit.
Mal wagged his head from side to side. "What do you think Max? Interested in scouting out a new den?" It wouldn't be a bad idea. Rorie could come and they could actually do something together and get used to the family idea. Mal still wasn't quite certain he liked the family role. "If nothing else, I'm interested." He was liking the idea more and more. Getting to see the house would give him a chance to know what he was looking at, what he'd need to furnish and what to remodel. There would probably be a need for several gallons of flame retardant paint and sealants. Quite a bit of money, but then he had it to spare.
Ears perking up, Max looked over at Mal, cocking his head slightly. A new den? Why would they need it, he wondered. This one was very fine. And it smelled like home. Oh, but... A new den would have new smells, probably thousands of them, and he would get to smell them all! And maybe it would be bigger, and would have more space to run. Maybe it would have more outside to it. He really liked the outside to this den, where he could run. "Yes yes!" he yipped, climbing from Rorie's lap and rushing over to stand in front of the elder, bouncing on the balls of his feet. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Go go!! Yes! Yes!"
