Who: Dezaray and Loghan When: Afternoon Where: Loghan's apartment What: Dee wants to see if she can have a kitten!
Dee was so excited about getting a kitten that the day after she'd talked to Dante she decided to seek out Loghan. It didn't take long to figure out which apartment was his. Dressing casually in stonewashed jeans, a black tank top, boots and a denim jacket, she walked over to his flat, knocking sharply on the door. She hoped he was inside since the soft mew of kittens could be heard through the door. Dee's grin only widened when it opened. "Hi there! I'm Dee. I asked you about taking one of the kittens?" She was super excited and it showed.
Rising from his spot on the floor where he'd been laying reading a book, kitten crawling about him, Lo set the book on the trunk that served as a coffee table and made his way to the door. Bare feet were silent against the hardwood flooring. Pulling back the door, he recognized the woman behind it only after she introduced herself. Thanking the gods that it was her and not someone else, Loghan nodded his head. "Hey" Taking a step back he'd bring the door with him providing her room to walk in, "C'mon in. They're up and playing around." As Dee stepped inside she'd quickly spot the kittens playing and tumbling with each other in the middle of his living room.
Dee smiled and stepped inside, taking off her jacket as she did so. No sense getting more fur on it than necessary. She glanced around for a place to hang in but didn't immediately see one, so she kept it over her arms instead. "Oh they're so cute!" She glanced back at Loghan, almost checking to make sure it was okay to play with them before stepping closer. Dee dropped to her knees and nearly giggled when a white kitten with blue eyes climbed up on her knees. "They're so soft!"
Closing the door gently behind her, Loghan stepped up next to her, matching her smile as she looked over the three that were left, one of which was his and already wearing a green collar with a bell and tag attached. "Yea... pretty good snugglers, too." He agreed, making his way past her and the kittens. "Would you like something to drink?" A question he constantly had to remind himself of whenever people were over considering the intake of food was unnecessary for him.
Dee glanced up, setting her jacket on the arm of the couch so she could pet the kittens. "Oh no, I'm fine, thank you. I don't want to put you to any trouble." She picked up the kitten in her lap and brought it to her cheek. "After all, I'm the one invading your apartment. I'm not interrupting anything, am I?" Dee was a confident woman, but understood just how important work could be. Whenever she was in the office, she growled if interrupted. Still, there were kittens!
"No, not at all... just doing some reading." Hands were shoved into the front of his jeans as he watched Dee pick up a kitten. His own little gray furball caught sight of his barefeet and immediately pounced at his tow, swatting him as if antagonizing him into daring to move, to walk so that she could hunt his toes. Smirking, he bent over and scooped her up with one hand, nuzzling her with his nose and head butting her playfully.
Dee watched as the grey one wandered over to Loghan and giggled as the other white one came over to bat at her knees. "I'm so tempted to take both, but I'm sure someone else wants one." Her mother had always told her to get two cats so they could play together when she was gone, but two kittens could be hard. Still, they were tempting. Dee picked up the second kitten to cuddle, giggling when it climbed over to her shoulder.
"Actually, no one ever claimed the fourth one, so you're more than welcome if you really want both of them." Fortunately Loghan's position didn't demand much of his time away from his chosen companion. He could take her with him outside year round and since he lived a relatively quiet lifestyle, it was rare for him to be out for very long. Setting Rain back down on the floor to play with the yard he'd got just for them to chase, he moved to take a seat on the couch.
Dee didn't think her smile could possibly get any bigger, but it did. "Seriously? You don't mind?" The kitten on her shoulder was chewing on her hair and the one in her hand was batting at her earring, but she didn't mind.
Grinning as he watched her being attacked by kittens, pretty amused, he nodded at her question. "Yea, absolutely." Loghan really had to refrain from keeping animals at home, otherwise he would have a zoo running about his place. Rain would be the first pet he'd allow himself in years, but after the first night and the way she'd attached to him almost immediately, he'd been unable to help himself.
Dee was feeling much the same way about the kittens. At least with two, she'd be able to take them back to her apartment when she left. A neighbor could feed them while she was out on a job and they'd be able to entertain each other. And while here, they'd be spoiled rotten by her. "Thank you!" She giggled then hissed as the kitten caught its claw in her earring and tugged. Carefully, she got it free and then set them both into her lap. "Okay, now who's a boy and who's a girl?"
"Umm shit, I forgot." It'd been difficult not to name the other two, but Loghan hadn't to keep from wanting to keep them. Three cats were far too many and kind of creepy for a guy. Moving from his spot on the couch he took a seat across from Dee and picked up one of the white ones, holding it up above his head and pulling little patches of fur back with his thumbs. "This one's the girl."
Dee cuddled the girl, trying to figure out a name for her. Maybe it'd come to her later. "Is this one a boy or are they both girls?" She wiggled her knee where the other kitten was crawling, making him -or her- mew softly.
"I know there was one of each, so the other's a boy." He nodded with reassurance. "You can actually tell the difference by the stripes on their head, but I keep forgetting." He felt like a fool admitting it, but the last two weeks had been kind of hectic and he'd lost track entirely of just about everything else.
Dee nodded, taking a look at their heads to try and tell the difference. The female actually had three stripes on her head and the boy had two. At least now she could tell them apart. "Good to know."
Lo gave her a nod of his head and smile, leaning back on the palms of his hand as he watch Dee and the two white kittens. He took note of the way she handled him, naturally wanting to make sure that they would be going home with someone who would love and care for them.
Dee let the one in her lap walk around for a bit before he curled up in the crook of her knee, purring as he napped. The girl she cradled in both hands, stroking her thumb under the soft chin. "They're absolutely adorable. Where did you find them again?" She glanced over at Loghan for a moment. He was pretty cute, but her attention was again stolen by the furry bundle in her hands.
"At the back end of campus... I wanted a few days for the mother to return but she never did, so I took them." Being an elemental Loghan didn't require food and could easily go without sleep, though the amount of dedication he showed to a set of orphaned kittens might have seemed a little nerdy.
If Dee had known just how long he'd waited and what he'd done, she would have thought it incredibly sweet. "Well, I'm glad you took them in." She saw the grey kitten -Rain?- prowling behind Loghan, crouching down to pounce Loghan's fingers. Dee grinned, but didn't mention anything.
And seconds later she was swatting away at his hand and then the pounce. Grinning back at her, he scooped Rain up once again, and set her in his lap. Though all she really did was climb out to pursue one of the white ones for play. "So, have you decided on names yet?"
Dee shook her head, setting down the one she was holding. "No. I haven't really had pets before. Any ideas?" She watched the little girl chase Rain around, smiling as the two played. The one in her lap stayed quiet, happily napping.
"Snow?" He thought for a moment, chewing on his lower lip as he tried to conjure up some more ideas while they sat there. "Tundra? Cloud? Cotton?" Shoulders were shrugged as he'd offered his best typical names for white pets.
Dee wagged her head from side to side, considering. They seemed like good solid names, but typical ones. "I don't know. I'm probably gonna think on it for a day or so and figure something out." She did like Tundra. That sounded like it might be a cool name for a boy.
Loghan gave her another brief shrug of his shoulders, boyish smile spreading across his lips awkwardly. For a relatively handsome, grown man who was well beyond the years of his appearance, Lo was still somewhat shy and socially a mess. How he lured in so many women was a mystery amongst friends whom had mastered the games of flirtation. A modest and self-proclaimed simple man, he was absolutely terrible at making conversation. “Sometimes you just have to feel it out.” It was how he was about naming anything. He could never understand how people named their children before birth. Lo had always imagined that he would have to meet his child, face to face, to know what his or her name would be. Though unfortunately, that day would never come for him.
Idly scratching her kitten behind the ears, Dee nodded. “Yeah. I’m thinking that’s what I’ll have to do. I’ll probably call out names and see what they answer to.” It made the most sense to her. She shouldn’t be the only one to pick the name. It was doubtful the darlings would respond to anything in particular, but it’d be cute to try. “So since I’ve never had kittens before, do you know anything that I probably should? Something that would help me take better care of them?” Sure there was always the internet to do research, but that was nowhere near as much fun as sitting with kittens playing and a cute guy in front of her.
“Um hm.” His head canted to the side a little as he considered all that he did know and what would be important. “The cool thing about cats is they’re pretty self sufficient. As long as they have a litter box, food and water, they’re set. I wouldn’t go crazy getting ‘cat toys’ at the store, if you leave a shoe box laying around for them, they’ll have a blast with that and something to chase or swat around.” He glanced down at the little fur balls for a moment before looking back to Dee. “Oh and after they get a little older, milk really isn’t a good idea anymore despite all the stereotypes.”
Nodding slowly, Dee made a mental list as Loghan rattled off what she’d need. “I’ve got a food and water bowl and a litter box. I guess they can work with the one for the time being. They can’t eat but so much, right?” Thinking about it, she knew she can some string laying around and it wouldn’t hurt to sacrifice a show box for them. Maybe she’d line it with an old towel as a place for them to sleep. The kitten chasing Rain came over to Dee’s lap, eyeing her brother. A paw shot out and batted the sleeping head to wake him up. Dee giggled as the little boy sat up and swatted out at his sister.
Lo smiled as Rain popped up from her nap to play. Lifting his hand he’d give his kitten a playful nudge of his fingers, knocking her over amidst chasing the other kitten. He’d really been more of a dog person, but had refused to get a pet considering his long vacations and uncertainty about anything other than himself the last few years. But upon finding the kittens and taking care of them, he’d found himself incapable of not keeping at least one. “Yea, you should be fine.” He assured her with a flash of his smile.
Smiling, Dee picked up her brother and sister combo, snuggling them both and holding them carefully. She couldn’t wait to get them home and play with them, watch to see how they felt about their new home. “Thanks so much for posting about them on the board. They’re just darlings.” Why would someone just abandon them in the middle of nowhere? It didn’t make sense to her, but at least the kittens had a home now. Definitely much better than it could have been. Knowing that she needed to get her jacket on, Dee let the kittens go on the floor so she could stand. The jacket was slid on quickly, but not fast enough. When she glanced back down, they weren’t where she left them. Instead they were playing with Loghan’s hand and Rain. Zipping up her jacket, Dee figured that carrying the kitten against her was an easier way to keep them from squirming around and being dropped. “Alright, babies. Time to go.”
Pushing himself up to stand, Loghan scooped her kittens up in his hands, one in each and made his way toward Dee. “Not a problem, thanks for giving them a good home.” Smile tugged at the right corner of his mouth as he handed the kittens over and walked with Dee to the door, holding it open for her so she wouldn’t have to struggle with the doorknob and the kittens.
