Monday: September/8/08
Who: Cherry and Loghan
When: Monday afternoon
Where: her doorway
What: Loghan returns!
Cherry was busy doing crunches on the floor. She didn’t much care for working out in the gym. She’d do whatever exercises she could in her apartment, while the rest of her fitness regime consisted of running or swimming. But for now, she was focused on crunches. The empath did at least two hundred a day. She was proud of her body, and it kept her piggy bank nice and fat, so she did her best to stay in shape.
She was nearing one hundred seventy when a knock came at the door. Cherry might have ignored it under normal circumstances, but Rocco got so damn excited, it made Cherry wonder who could be on the other side. Sure, the cat liked a lot of people, but he didn’t react like that to just anyone. “Just a sec!” she yelled, hauling her butt off the floor and jogging over to the door.
The face on the other side wasn’t one that Cherry expected to see again, especially not here. “Wha.. what are you doing here?”
---
“I uh...” He’d rehearsed the words the entire walk to her room from his old one and yet the moment he saw her, the words had escaped the cage of his tongue. Dark hues stared at her a moment, the small pang in his chest from being left behind this summer on what he’d hoped would’ve been a romantic getaway was still there. “I just wanted to return this to you.” His hand reached up from his side to hand her back a hairbrush she’d left behind with him when she’d left him.
His mind had already swirled with the jealousy of all the potential lovers she’d had since him, but Loghan did his best to not think about it right now. Not now when his heart was still jumping between adoration and disdain. Masculine fingers pushed through his dark brown hair, though it fell in his eyes reluctantly. Stepping back from her doorway, he prepared to make his way back down the hall and continue trying to avoid her, or so he told himself.
In truth, he just wanted to see her again, pathetic fool that he was.
---
Cherry looked down at the brush, back at him and his lovely eyes, then back to the brush. “My hairbrush?” She focused on Loghan’s face once more. “Seriously? I’ve replaced it already.” Just like she’d essentially replaced him, well, sorta. It wasn’t like Cherry was dating anyone. Yes, she had lovers, lots of them, and Mal was a regular one, but she didn’t have relationships.
Pushed aside, Cherry was forced to make way for Rocco, who was ready to pounce on Loghan. Cherry grabbed hold of the cat’s collar and pulled him back into the apartment. “You didn’t come here to return a hairbrush, Loghan. Why are you really here?”
---
He let out a quiet sigh, head lowered, his gaze on the floor. He knew that lying to her was no use yet he really didn’t want to admit that he’d missed her. Lo wanted to stay angry at her, angry because she couldn’t live up to what he’d wanted and needed of her. “I missed you.” He pressed his back against the wall opposite her door, forcing his eyes up to meet hers. There wasn’t much else she could really do to him now. She’d already broken his heart, there was nothing beyond that. It was freeing in a sense, though the hurt overshadowed that entirely at the moment.
He knew she’d moved on and only felt stupid that he hadn’t yet. His loyalty hadn’t allowed him to until he’d completely rid himself of her and everything that belonged to or reminded him of Cherry. Now, now he was free, though it didn’t feel that way at all.
---
Cherry watched Loghan carefully, and when he confessed that he missed her, she sighed and slumped against the door frame, letting go of Rocco’s collar so he could go over and buddy up to one of his best friends. The feline immediately rushed to Loghan’s side, rubbing his head against the man’s leg for petting. “I miss you too, but we... we don’t work. We tried, and we failed. If I were the sort to be in relationships, I’d be with you. You know that. But you expect so much from me, Loghan, and I can’t live up to any of it. I’m not...” she wasn’t sure how to put it, then it came to her. “I’m not really Molly. It doesn’t matter that it’s my legal name. I’m not her. I’m sorry.”
---
“I know.” He nodded, straightening up a little more confident than he had been moments ago. She done a decent job of reminding him of all the things he’d been thinking since she’d left. She wasn’t at all who he wanted her to be. She wasn’t even close and deep down he knew he’d never be able to settle. Reaching down he smirked at the feline, much more appreciative of his loyalty. Fingers pushed through his fur and scratched at the back of his ear before standing back up. “I didn’t come back to TJS because of you. I came back because this really is the only home I’ve got. I came to your door to see you.” He clarified, just in case there had been any confusion. Lo didn’t want her to think that this conversation was any indication of whether or not he’d be around.
---
He was back to stay? Oh hell. That wasn’t going to be awkward at all. “Sooo.. you’re gonna.. work here again?” She’d left him for a second time because the fights had started to outnumber the good times they had together. They bickered with one another constantly. Cherry didn’t want that to start up again. But who was she to begrudge him a place where he felt comfortable?
“Well, I guess we’ll be seeing each other more often. And,” she looked down at Rocco who was very happy at the moment, “You’ll be seeing Rocco too. He misses you.”
---
“Yea.” He gave her a nod of his head, the smirk lingering. Not to Loghan was smug about the circumstances, but he was forcing himself to be okay with this. There was no way he’d be thrilled by any notion that involved seeing her daily as well as engaging other men. But Loghan knew he’d get over it. Despite his territorial nature. They were plenty of beautiful women in Boston to help him get over it or even, maybe, capture his interest long-term. “Probably.” He left it at that. Lo didn’t really want to specify the terms of their relationship now, whether they were supposed to talk or not.
He’d be civil regardless. Or atleast try to be. Glancing back to Cherry’s pet, his smile widened. Had she not been so attached to Rocco, Lo might have actually tried talking her into letting Lo keep him. But he’d never dare knowing how much she loved him. “So... I guess I’ll be seeing you.” Loghan tried to conclude, wanting to leave now after embarrassing himself a bit and knowing this wasn’t going to lead anywhere he was ready to venture to.
---
Cherry watched Loghan and Rocco together, feeling bad for keeping them apart. Rocco was her best friend, but he did love Loghan. “If you want.. you can kidnap him from time to time. He’d like it.” Why did this feel like some sort of custody battle? “And, I guess it would be nice to see you sometimes. So.. drop by whenever you want to pick him up. I mean, you should probably call first,” because it would be hell on everyone involved if Loghan showed up when she was busy with someone else, especially if that someone else was Mal. Cherry doubted that Loghan would appreciate seeing her with Georgie either, though maybe he’d just think they were good friends, which they were, but benefits were definitely involved.
---
“Sure...” His voice trailed off. Although he did like the idea of having time with the feline he’d connected with, sharing something with Cherry felt like he wasn’t letting go. He knew it was a bad idea and so he’d agree passively, but was already telling himself he wouldn’t actually ever show up. He didn’t want to see her regularly, well, more like he didn’t want any reason to seek her out. She didn’t deserve his attention to that degree, even if it was just indirectly. “Right.” He agreed, his lips slightly pursed in irritation. He knew exactly what she meant when she suggested he call first. Expectations aside, Loghan still had it in his head that she really just wasn’t satisfied with just one cock in her life. Or maybe his just hadn’t been adequate enough - a thought that bruised his ego, but he’d do his best to discredit such a thought. Hands were shoved into the pockets of his jeans, his body language gradually shutting her out subconsciously as they shared minimal conversation.
---
Loghan was perfect.. for someone. But Cherry wasn’t that someone. It wasn’t that he’d ever left her unsatisfied, because that was far from the case. Seeing him again now, looking as good as ever, made her wish they could make things work. He was the sexiest man she’d ever met and fucked. That was saying a lot, because Mal was damn sexy and good at pleasing her. Still, she cared deeply for Loghan, more than she’d ever cared for a man. It wasn’t meant to be though. If he could deal with something casual, a good friendship with benefits thing, then maybe they’d have a chance, but her past bothered him too much, and she couldn’t adapt to the simple life he preferred.
“Okay, well, thanks for, uh, bringing my hairbrush and stopping by to let me know you’re back.” She would have been upset to simply see him around without any sort of warning. Cherry knew it had to be hard for him to come here and talk to her like this. She couldn’t detect his emotions using her powers, but she didn’t need to.
---
“Yea, have a good night.” He met her gaze one last time before bending down to give Rocco a final scratch and pat. Lo pushed himself off the wall to retreat to his room and sink into the comfortable old couch. A summer away had been a much needed break, with or without Cherry. Getting drunk seemed like a possibly decent way to end the evening, though he knew it’d take a while and he feared drunk texting Rocky. It wouldn’t be a good idea right now, knowing himself and knowing he’d true to lure her to his room only to possibly leave her feeling used considering the circumstances.
Too bad he couldn’t use Cherry to get over her. Fingers rose up to rub had his forehead as he walked and soon push through chin length hair. Women altogether were not a good idea right now, though the comfort of curling up naked with one was all he suddenly wanted to feel.
---
If Cherry thought that Loghan was really over her, she would have been happy to curl up naked with him. But the look in his eyes told her that he still had feelings for her, and she didn’t want to prolong his recovery. He had to move on, and he wouldn’t be able to do that if she gave in to her desires.
