This school was really kind of cute. After dropping her things off in her room, not really caring to put things away, Aislyn took off to the halls to explore. It was all a little bit...mundane! How quaint. Lyn smiled as she looked out the windows of the hall and saw students outside. She waved to a few passing by who looked a little shocked. She had no idea why. Weren't things like her common around here? That was the point of this place after all! She was excited to meet other Sprites, make friends, do Sprite-things. Whatever those were!
Lyn settled her bare feet on the floor of the student common area as she poked around, checking in a drawer under the lamp. There was nothing exciting. She bumped the drawer closed with her calf while looking under the couch cushions. Two quarters! Lyn smiled and took them for herself, holding them tight in her right hand. Hey, there was nothing wrong with picking up a bit of loose change!
As she stood up, sparkling wings fluttering before hanging down her back, the blond checked her hair in the reflection of the window. It was perfect, straight with ringlets curled in every now and again. She twisted a lock before opening her wings and flying off toward the other end of the hall. It looked like Boy World.
Jason walked out of his room, deciding that since Daigo was studying, he should head to the lounge. No one was likely to be in there since it was finals week and everyone had their nose in a book. Just before rounding the corner, he caught wind of a new scent. A person. Someone he hadn't met yet. Well, there went the idea to turn on ESPN and catch the latest game.
Rounding the corner, he strode casually into the room, his eyes quickly landing on the blonde near the sofa. "Good morning."
Looking up, Aislyn dropped her hands behind her back, the left wrapping around the wrist of her right. "Good morning," she replied kindly, cheerily, closing her wings and dropping to her feet quietly. Oooh, he was a cutie. Yum. She smiled at Jason, blue eyes looking him over before finding his face again. He was tall, too. Oooh la la.
"How are you?" she asked. Aislyn always knew her place with manners--it was why people thought she was so nice.
Jason gave a bright smile, moving around the random furniture to the sofa. Feeling perfectly casual, he answered "I'm doing well. You look to be new around here." Gesturing to the cushions, he indicated for her to sit, and he lowered himself to the corner cushion.
Glancing around, he looked for the remote. Aha! Right on the arm of the couch. Convenient. He wouldn't worry about picking it up just yet, since he was having a conversation with a beautiful woman. "I'm Jason, by the way." He stuck out a hand in greeting.
Knees bending, Aislyn knelt on the couch with Jason, facing him. "I just moved in today," she told him in reply. "It's nice here. I'm looking forward to poking around, later." Taking his hand, her own small, soft, and delicate, she shook with him.
"I'm Aislyn. It's nice to meet you." His shake felt strong and he looked well built. It was always good for a man to be in shape. Her brother was, she always felt a little jealous. "Is the school nice? I've never gone to a school like this before."
Jason wagged his head from side to side. "It's alright. You came in during finals week, and then we're out on summer break. I wouldn't say you chose the best time to arrive since most people will be leaving at that point."
He leaned back against the cushions, letting his eyes rove over her outfit briefly. Hey, she was checking him out, there was no reason he couldn't return the favor. Cute. Gorgeous really, with a sparkling personality. She'd probably fit in well here, if she could withstand all the drama. His sharp eyes caught a hint of the wings behind her and he figured her race as some sort of sprite. It seemed to suit her.
"Actually, we thought it would be better for me to move in now. Get situated. I've never lived away from home outside of staying at a friend's house in the summer for a week or two." She gave a shrug and smiled, glancing away as he checked her out. Lyn always liked to pretend to not notice unless the situation allowed her to play it up in a teasing sort of way. But for Jason, she would let it go today.
"Do people have reasons to be here?" she asked after a pause. "Or is it just a great place to go?"
Finished with his perusal, he brought his gaze back up to her face. Aislyn. It was a lovely name. "Well, you'll have plenty of time to learn the area then. There probably won't be much going on around campus, but
Giving a shrug with one muscled shoulder, he thought about the way to answer her question. "There's always reasons to be someplace. Some people need help controlling themselves. Others made deals with their parents, and some are here because they've no place else to go. Everyone has their own story."
Oh, goody. "I've always wanted to visit
"Oh? Really? And what's yours?" Aislyn didn't have a problem being blunt, though sometimes she tried to have more skill in being subtle.
Jason smiled. "I'm sticking around here for the summer, so I could take you around
"My story?" Jason paused for a moment, debating his answer. He finally decided to go for the truth. It was so much easier than trying to balance a web of lies. "I lost control of myself."
Brightening even more, as if the sun had come out from behind a thin cloud, Aislyn grinned. "That would be perfect!" she said, reaching out and putting her left hand on his shoulder. "You're already my favorite!" With a cute shrug and a scrunch of her nose, she pulled back and settled into her seat, still on her knees.
When he told her his reason for being here the color faded, but not nearly as much as one might thing. Her smile fell, slightly, but she still looked pleasant. "You lost control? What happened?" Aislyn was genuinely concerned. She got attached to people pretty easily.
Jason grinned, her enthusiasm obvious and infectious. Though, like her, his smile faded at her question. One of these days he was going to learn than his casual answer led to more difficult questions. How could he tell her that he'd killed someone and didn't even remember it?
Better to just avoid it. "I'd, uh, rather not discuss that." Clearning his throat, he turned the conversation to her. "So what about you? Why are you coming here?"
Rather not discuss it? Must have been something bad. Still, Aislyn could respect the fact that he didn't want to tell her. She was just the new girl, anyway, and she remembered the glory days of high school when she was Miss Popular. It was hard opening up to just anyone.
"Me?" she giggled softly behind a hand, her nails painted orange. "Well...I couldn't get into college, and my parents didn't want me stuck in the house all of the time. I did have two jobs! So I was doing okay, but my parents thought it'd be nice if I went back to school. So they sent me here." She smiled, fingers fixing the strap of her dress at the back of her neck gently, repositioning it. "They made it sound like people who go here need help. Not that I don't need help, but I don't really....eh...need help." She frowned for the first time in the last few days. "I'm sorry. That was rude! I'm not saying you need help!"
Wow, ask a girl a question and she gave you a five minute sermon. Aislyn reminded him of Astrid. Bubbly, unwittingly flirty and more than willing to talk and talk. It was cute.
A brow arched at her unintended dig. Yeah, it stung a bit, but he did need help. That was why he was here. "Don't worry about it. I do need help." No sense in denying the truth.
Smiling, glad he wasn't angry, Aislyn unfolded her legs and sat more normally on the couch. Her wings shimmered when the light caught them and she pushed a lock of hair back behind that pointed, pierced ear of hers.
"If you don't mind me asking," started the pretty blond. "What is it you do? I'm an Air Sprite. I like long flights on warm summer nights, being outside in general, and running with the wind." She spoke in a very similar fashion to the dating scene stereotype "I like long walks on the beach." It was supposed to be funny, though her facts were true.
Jason's smile returned full force. She was sweet and funny. He caught the joke, bad though it may have been and answered in kind. "I'm a dhampir. I'm running back on the football team and graduated with my degree in business from
Aislyn laughed, a hand covering her mouth and much of her face. "Oh my god, I love going crazy! It makes you just want to--" she paused and sprang from her seat into the air with her arms above her head as she danced for a moment. Then she sat. "--do that."
She liked to think she was a special brand of crazy. It wasn't really insane so much as just very out going.
He laughed with her. "Exactly. Nothing wrong with having fun, and going all out." Giving her a once over again, with the information he had just learned, Jason added, "Y'know, Aislyn, I think I may just like you."
Despite herself, when she looked back at Jason and he admitted he might just like her, she blushed. It was a compliment, even if he meant "like as a friend." So she interpreted. No need to get ahead of herself. "Well, Jason, I think I just might like you, too." She nodded and stood up and reached for him with her left hand. "Lets dance."
Jason stood up with her. "Oh wait, hang on." Reaching out for the remote he'd spotted, he turned on the television and flipped through the channels to one that played nothing but dance music. "It's always much more fun to actually have something to dance to."
Watching him change the channel, Lyn nodded. "If you say so," she replied, grinning. "I usually just dance because I can." While he flipped through the channels she looked up at him, noting the grand difference between herself and Jason. Pursing her lips she jumped up and down twice.
"You're taller when you're standing."
Jason arched a brow in Aislyn's direction as he tossed the remote back to the sofa. "Yeah. I'm 5'11. It's not extremely tall, but I'm not short either." He bit the side of his tongue as he realized what she could infer.
"Not to say that you're short or anything. Just, I'm average, y'know?"
Holding up her hands she waved them at him. "No! You are tall! And I am definitely short. I'm barely five-foot-one!" She realized after she had spoken that she had dropped her money. No! Bending down she searched for the second quarter after picking up the first. Aislyn wasn't trying to be stingy or anything, she just loved finding things. She would have kept a button if she found it.
"But I don't mind being short," carried on the sprite from the floor where she knelt to try and reach under the couch where the coin had rolled. "I don't have to duck to get in doors! And people think you're cute, which is great if you like that sort of thing. I do. And being short means you can wear short things, which never sells out at the stores. My friends always complain about how their sizes are gone because they're all 'average' and they can never find their size in jeans, or something. I don't have that problem."
Jason had to shake his head in amusement. Did she really not care that she was reaching under the sofa for a quarter? Leaving her ass just sticking up in the air for him to stare at? Being a gentleman, Jason averted his gaze, choosing instead to study the stucco pattern on the ceiling. That had to have been time consuming to do.
"I'm so glad you don't have a problem finding clothes. Though you'd think with online shopping it wouldn't be so hard for your friends."
Sitting back on her knees after finding the quarter, she put the pair on the table. That fifty-cents may come in handy one day. She smiled up at Jason and thought he was nice for looking away. Honestly, she didn't care. She had a nice butt. If people were ballsy enough to look, go ahead. It wasn't as if she were naked.
"Well, it's different online. Women are picky and things don't always look good on you like they look good on the model. It's hard to buy online, I think. Especially jeans. Jeans are made to fit a certain way. But I don't wear them unless I have to, so I only own one pair." Shrugging, she got to her feet and started to sway her hips, arms bent by her side. Aislyn had no rhythm at all.
Jason lowered his gaze as Aislyn came to her feet. It was immediately obvious that she had no real moves when it came to dancing. Though Jason was good himself, he went wild and crazy, moving with her and not really caring about the music. It was all in fun anyways, right?
"I guess I never really thought about it that way. I mean jeans are jeans for guys usually."
Aislyn liked Jason. He wasn't really stupid and could suffer through a conversation about clothes. Good man! "As long as they don't hang below your butt, I don't care what's worn!" she smiled. Her arms then moved above her head as she danced, really liking this song. It was just some pop song remixed into something for dancing.
There was a great jive to it.
"So," she said. "Where are you from?"
Jason had started to mouth along with the words, tripping over them a bit when the remix shifted verses or randomly repeated lines. Odd, but it worked. And that underlying bass was awesome.
"
Songs were tricky devils. Aislyn knew the pain and anguish of having one stuck inside her noggin. "I'm from
"Wait, you just graduated college?" she echoed a thought from earlier. That made him about twenty-four or twenty-five? Sweet. "How was it?"
Jason wasn't twenty four or twenty five, but if she wanted to think so, she was welcome to it. He was younger than that, but it never hurt to be made to feel older. "Yeah. Last weekend was graduation. And
"Oooh, it's nice. You should go. But just for a little while. It's sort of crazy!" she smiled, shaking her head as she thought about it. Oh, the insanity. "Congratulations! I couldn't get into college." Aislyn wasn't afraid to admit that she was stupid or that she had failed miserably in school. Over the years she had just learned to accept the fact that she wasn't very bright, textbook wise, and that was okay with her.
"What was your major? Business?"
Jason thought about asking if living in
"Yeah. Business. I figured that even though I got in on a football scholarship, I should at least get a decent degree out of it."
"That's really cool," she told him, wiggling freely. The dress Aislyn wore tossed to and fro as she moved, revealing some of her calf but not much more due to it being so long. It was, however, apparent by now that she had no shoes on--in case that had been missed. "I don't know what I would have gone to school for in the first place. There's nothing I want to do yet."
Jason nodded. "Thanks. And maybe you don't need to go to college. As much as the government and society tries to push it on the younger generations, college really isn't for everyone." He'd noticed the bare feet. Jason thought she was a little crazy for walking these halls which were cleaned god only knew how often, but if it made her happy, more power to her.
Honestly, germs on the floor were the least of Aislyn's problems. There were so many things worse than whatever dirt had been tracked in. Like STDs or a bad hair day. She took a shower twice a day and so, she thought, she was fine.
"You're probably right. But I'm not worried about it either way. Something will come my why soon enough. What about you? Got any big business jobs lined up?"
Jason spun on his heel to the music, misjudged his speed and ended up sprawling on the sofa in a fit of laughter. Oh, if only his teammates could see his uncoordination now. On the field, he was sleek and quick, but on his own he could be a klutz.
"Nope," he grinned. "Nothing yet, though I'm looking. Kinda hard to find something when I need to take classes still."
Laughing at Jason as he fell, Aislyn put a knee beside him on the couch with her other hand holding herself up against the back of said sofa. "How many classes do you have to take? Does everyone have a full schedule? I'm taking something every period!" For a split second she frowned before waggling her fingers before him.
"Look at you getting into the spirit."
Jason shrugged a shoulder. "I'm a dhampir, so I end up taking twice the course load as everyone else. It keeps me busy at the least."
Dhampir? Aislyn put her arms down and stopped dancing as she gave him a thoughtful, albeit confused, look. "What's that?"
Jason held back a sigh. How many times in his life had he been asked that same question? "The short version is I'm a hybrid. Half lycan, half vampire."
Her look changed to a startled "oh." She even mouthed the thought but nodded, then smiled. "Cool!" she told him. "Does that mean you don't sleep? That's got to suck. But at least now you have all of the time in a day to get something done. That has to be great!"
Jason shook his head. "Nah, I sleep, though I don't have to sleep as much as everyone else, probably. I mean, I am only half vampire." He glanced up at Aislyn, wondering if she even realized she was periously close to giving him a lap dance in this position.
She wasn't really aware. But after he answered her she turned away and started to move across the room anyway, arms in the air and her feet off of the ground. "That's pretty cool, still! I wish I could sleep less. There's so much to do and so little time in life to do it all!" She grinned, tossing blond hair over her shoulder as she sat herself down in a fluid motion on the coffee table.
Jason nodded. "Yeah. And I guess it'll come in handy in the fall when I'm taking so many classes." Stretching out on the sofa again, he watched as she fluttered about the room. That was an odd thing to think, seeing someone literally flutter.
"So how're you settling in?"
It was a little strange, sure, but you got used to it after a while. Aislyn was used to it, obviously, and really enjoyed flying around just because she could. It was great! Everyone should have been able to fly on their own, at least once in their life to experience it. "I guess I just will have to learn to sleep less," she joked. "Maybe someone can keep me up?"
Crossing her arms as she smiled, she gave a shrug. "Well I just dropped my stuff off, really. I haven't 'moved-in' or anything. I haven't even talked to my roommate yet! I threw my stuff on the bed and left to explore."
"If you ever decide to stay up one night, I'll keep you company." Jason smiled and wondered how was it anyone could stand to just leave bags and boxes packed up, scattered everywhere. It wasn't something he could do, but to each his own. "If you just came to the lounge, then it looks like you haven't explored much yet, huh?"
Making a sweet face, Aislyn waved a hand in thanks at Jason. "Well, no. I really only did just get here earlier this morning! Though admittedly I did get distracted looking around the dorms. Some people left their doors open so I peeked in. There's one girl who has the messiest room I have ever seen. Ew."
Jason chuckled. "I can bet some of the guy's rooms are worse. Speaking of which," he stood, deciding Daigo had had enough solo time to study. Jason wanted to do some cleaning up and more reading of the textbooks he'd gotten. "I should probably got straighten up my own area."
Getting to her feet, Aislyn nodded at her new friend. "Alright!" She smiled and picked up her quarters. "I should probably go unpack or something...Boo."
Laughing, he shook his head and headed to the doors. "Well, think about it this way. The sooner you're unpacked, the sooner you can get back to exploring, and the more time you'll have for it." He rounded one last table before leaving. "See you around Aislyn."
She laughed back at him, nodding. "Alright, alright. You make a great argument. I'll see you later, Jason! Thanks for dancing with me." Grinning, Aislyn took a few tip-toed steps before fluttering off down the hallway back toward her room.
