Who: Peyton and Lyle
When: around 2:00 am Wednesday
Where: Fisher's room (since they're still living there)
What: Pey has a dream and needs to confess something
Astrid's party had been lame. So so SOOOO very lame. Peyton didn't want to be there, and while she didn't complain even once about being dragged along, it was clear she felt out of place. The world felt very upside down to Peyton these days. All teenage girls went through an 'awkward' phase where they felt confused about who they were and uncomfortable in their own skin, but that was multiplied by about a billion for Peyton. Normal girls woke up with tits and felt strange. Peyton had just learned part of her genetic code was from another fucking planet! Talk about body image issues!
She'd been tossing and turning several nights now. Lyle was sweet to ask what was wrong each time she disturbed his sleep. He was even kind enough to shut up when she refused to talk about it. Tonight, things started down the same path. Peyton had slipped into a familiar dream. She was standing in what resembled a desert, though the smells, sounds and temperature were all wrong.. especially for this time of night. The black sky was dotted with stars, yet they were in the wrong places. Peyton couldn't recognize a single constellation. Where was the iconic Big Dipper, the hunter Orion, and the ever lovely Cassiopeia? They were all missing. But something new hung in the sky that even the most unobservant person would notice. There was not one, but two moons. She stared up at it all in wonder.
Peyton's brain began mapping the sky, trying to memorize each star's place. She should have been looking at the ground though, or at least at ey level. A figure approached unseen. It came up behind Peyton and placed a hand on her shoulder. Strangely, Peyton was not startled. She continued to stare into the celestial abyss. A voice sounded close to her ear, but she didn't recognize the language. The being was trying to tell her something, but Peyton couldn't understand. Peyton began to turn, hoping to ask the being for help, but that was when the dream slipped away, and Peyton slipped through the bed again.
She landed on the floor with a thud. Thankfully, there was nothing beneath the bed, and above her were planks of wood that held the box springs in place. "Lyle?" she called up to him as she scooted out from under the bed but remained on her back on the floor.
