Sunday 10th Feb
Who: Blake and Ric
Where: Ric's apartment
When: Sunday 10th
What: Blake needs to give him his gift and it's a perfect sunny day...
The moment Blake saw there was sunshine outside on the morning of the tenth he had grinned to himself. Perfect conditions. He'd stayed the night at Godric's, wanting to wake up with him on the dawn of their last day off, so he could present the vampire's big gift he'd been worrying about for so long. Blake had spent just under two weeks researching in the library, looking online, ringing up his mother and other witches for advice on how to give Godric as good a birthday present as he could think of. The only thing left now was to put it into practice.
The day before, when Ric was either in the shower or having Wesley "conveniently" distract him, Blake had gone about the apartment doing the preparation on the windows as quiet as possible. The spell had to be done everywhere, on every one, in every room, for this to work. Even on the panels of the doors, as they weren't safe either. After flitting around like a humming bird Blake had finally gone to bed, nervous and excited for the next day.
Now it had arrived and Blake was up, going to the living room and looking around for his vampire lover. He had to do this quickly - the boards on most of the windows had been removed, a concealing charm replacing them which was easily reversed. He did this now, carefully and quietly. The sun was bright outside, and as Blake placed a hand on one of the panes of the living room window he sensed the spell humming, working. Practically perfect. Dead-on.
"RIC!" he yelled, excitement clear in his voice. He tugged the curtains together, making sure they looked untouched before he bounded into the middle of the room. It was early and Wesley would hate him for shouting but he didn't care. "Ric! Come here, please!"
---
If it was all the same to Blake (which of course it was not), Godric would have preferred to simply let his birthday alone and not bother to acknowledge it. After a certain number of decades, the day had lost a great deal of meaning. And now that Godric was technically dead, it almost seemed a spiteful thing to celebrate. He might have been better off celebrating his deathday, which was some time in late June (the 28th, actually).
Blake had been pacing about today like a mad man, and Godric felt totally under foot (not to mention Blake had shooed him away a few times this morning), so he's resigned himself to the kitchen table. He knew that whatever Blake was doing had something to do with his birthday. Of course he had no idea what it was, but the possibilities reeling through his mind were not pleasant. The worst of all were the notions of a suprise party, something which Godric had hoped Blake would realize were grounds for relationship termination.
Blake's shouting broke his thoughts, and his immediate reaction was, oddly, to check down the hall to see if Wesley had been woken up. Since the vampire heard no noise, he slid out of his chair and went to the living room, where Blake had a strange, eager expression on his face. Oh, dear. This could not bode well. This hinted at all day birthday spoilings. Standing by the doorway, the vampire regarded the witch carefully. "Alright," he said, trying his hardest to keep the smile from his voice, "what have you done now?"
---
Ric could try, but he failed. Blake knew by his tone that he was humoured by Blake's enthusiasm. Well, let him laugh. Rubbing his hands together Blake tried to tone down his own grin, not seem as mischeivous but this wasn't a bad surprise. At least he hoped not. Taking Ric's hands in his own he squeezed them gently.
"Firstly... pretend today is Tuesday," he smiled, "and secondly... I have a present for you. It's not giftwrapped and it's not expensive, so don't worry. All it cost is some time. But I think - I know that it's going to work. So... stay there. And turn towards the windows, just for a moment."
Blake walked over to the main, large window which he'd been testing before and took the curtains in both hands. "Alright. Stay there. Don't move." Blake took a deep breath, nerves shining through. "Happy Birthday." With a big gesture Blake threw open the drapes, sunlight streaming in to the dull, lifeless room, illuminating all the mess on the floor and bursting over the vampire. The apartment had been left in the dark so long that Blake didn't even know there was colour on the walls.
Nervously, Blake looked at Ric, blinking blearily. He hoped to God there wasn't a pile of dust on the floor...
---
Despite not wanting anything for his birthday, and despite him thinking that Blake was wasting his time acknowledging it, there was no denying how unbelieveably cute the man looked when he was excited. Like a puppy that had just chewed on your shoes, eager to show you what a good job he'd done. Godric rolled his eyes at the 'happy birthday' part, though he did so with a smile. Blake knew him too well. Just as Godric opened his mouth to protest a gift, assure the demon that it wasn't necessary, Blake was already covering his bases and stifling any concerns. Godric closed his mouth, begrudgingly accepting that he wasn't going to win this debate.
Something was odd. Doing as Blake instructed, Godric faced the large, useless window that took up a good deal of the wall. Then Blake was walking towards the window, and about half a second before he did what he did, Godric knew what was coming. This was his birthday present? A boarded window?
The sunlight burst into the room, stinging Godric's eyes. He covered them with a hand, just one second before realizing that the sun was beaming onto his skin. He could feel its warmth, which would soon turn to burning and then very soon afterward, flames. Godric backed up, his back hitting the wall beside the kitchen doorway, heart full of panic. He couldn't escape this, it was already too late. What had Blake done to him? He looked over at the demon, confusion etched onto his face. He was going to die today, and Blake was just standing there with a small smile on his face, while Godric... while he...
Godric looked down at his arms. Nothing. Nothing was happening. His mind couldn't comprehend this. Vampires plus sunlight equaled flaming death, an equation everyone knew. But this didn't add up. Raising his eyes to look at Blake, Godric couldn't think of what to say. He wanted to ask 'how?', or 'why?', but no words came out. He just stared, curious, completely at a loss.
---
Seeing Godric's reaction almost made Blake feel really bad. He was concerned that Ric was about to do himself a michief but didn't run after him. He'd have to figure it out, once the sun just warmed him and lit up the area the vampire would realise that he wasn't in mortal danger.
Meeting Ric's eyes he smiled a little, shyly. It had worked. Relief! Stepping forward he bit his bottom lip, hoping that he wasn't angry or confused or wanted him to change it back. He didn't even know if it COULD be reversed so he hoped to whatever deity existed that Godric would like it. Clearing his throat Blake spoke into the silence.
"It's a blocking spell," he explained quietly. "It stops the UV rays coming through so you only get the light and not the damage. Perfect for vampires. I've... used it in every room, so you don't have to walk around a blocked-up hovel anymore. I mean maybe you can feel a bit... normal now. And I've done it on my apartment too... your old one... so if you ever visit...." He was running out of things to say. "Do you like it?"
---
A blocking spell. It made sense, the school had them. But Blake had... in his own apartment. Godric looked around the room as though seeing it for the first time. Electrical lights made everythign washed out, so the ugly weird green that was on the living room walls was actually a beautiful, sunny springtime green. The carpet was honey colored, not dirty white. Everything looked different in the sunlight.
Normal. Blake had done this, all this, to make Godric feel normal. A ball of emotion welled up in the vampire's chest, threatening to choke him. Blake was looking at him, expectantly, but Godric was just so stunned. This was possibly the greatest thing anyone had ever done for him.
"I..." he began, emotions threatening to betray him. Clearing his throat, he spoke again. "Thank you." It was pathetic. Thank you? Blake had done all this for him, and that's all he could say? Godric tried to think of something else, anything else, but found nothing. So instead he pulled Blake close and kissed him, holding him close, arms wrapped tightly around him. Blake could probably feel the overwhelming emotion coming from Godric, as it was such a rare occurance.
---
During Godric's silence Blake worried he'd done a terrible thing. An almost unspeakable thing against the vampire culture, giving him sunlight when he wanted darkness, something along those lines. Blake shifted, nerves going on overtime. Ric didn't like it. Oh fuck he didn't like it... he wanted the boards back didn't he?
But even on the first syllable the demon realised that Ric was in face appreciative of this gesture. His voice had displayed an underlying emotion which made Blake grin. He'd thanked him. And he was happy about it. He was about to say something to him when Ric kissed him, hugging him tightly. Blake responded in kind, cuddling him close. The wave of emotion did wash over the demon and he himself felt choked. Ric looked so different in sunlight. It was like his handsomeness was intensified. It was different the way the shadows went across his face. It only made him look better.
"You're welcome," he said finally.
---
He could never, in the rest of his very long lifespan, thank Blake enough for this. The witch had given him back something he'd missed terribly for all these years- sunlight. Pure, basic, light from the sun. The school windows could let in light, but it wasn't the same at all. They were slightly dimmed (vampires had light-sensitive eyes) and within the confines of work, of someplace industrial. Here they were home, out in the real world and Blake looked so incredibly handsome lit up this way.
Breaking from the hug, Godric walked over to the window, touched the pane with tentative outstretched fingers. Everything was so bright, almost too hard to look at. He missed that world so much. But Blake had brought him a step closer. Godric could actually feel the warmth of the sun on his face.
"I love you," he said softly, still gazing outside. "More than I can ever possibly say."
---
Blake smiled softly, watching the vampire step tentatively into the light almost like a toddler introduced to a new world. He hadn't expected such a touched reaction but this was more than he could have hoped for. Finally he'd done something right for a person he loved. With a sigh he edged closer to the vampire, hugging himself. He'd let Godric stand a while, feel the warmth of the sun.
When he spoke Blake knew that he would be allowed to break the small personal moment. Walking up behind him Blake wrapped his arms around Godric's waist, resting his chin on his shoulder as they both looked out at the sunny world together. "I love you too. I wanted you to have this. I didn't want you kept in the dark so long."
---
It wasn't often that someone could touch Godric on quite the level Blake just had. He'd been such a secretive man for all his life, never letting anyone know what it was that truly mattered to him. So this entire feeling of immense, unspeakable gratitude was a little hard for the vampire to register.
He almost felt in another world, coming back to the real one when he felt Blake's slender arms around him. He leaned into the hug, still watching out the window. The words Blake spoke were not helping Godric be any less choked up. He closed his eyes, feeling the sunlight and breathing in Blake's masculine scent. "Thank you," he whispered agin, not knowing what else he could say. This was perfect. Nothing could possibly be more perfect then this. He didn't even care if the neighbors could see into the apartment and wonder why four men were living in there, speculating about pornographic movies and orgies and the like.
Turning in Blake's arms, Godric looked up at the demon, into his eyes. "This is... Blake this is just... I can't even..."
---
Blake smiled. Ric had never been lost for words before and he knew it was because emotion was rather hard for him to put into general speech. Resting his hands around Godric's body Blake rested his forehead against the vampire's, nudging their noses together. He kept his gaze on Ric's beautiful eyes, a slight laugh escaping his lips. He really really loved this man, and even this wasn't enough to show him.
Pressing a small kiss to Godric's nose Blake shrugged. "It's the least I could do. I'm just glad you like it."
---
"I love it," Godric assured him. "I love it, I love you. This is just..." He couldn't express it. He couldn't. There was no sense trying anymore because there weren't any words in creation that could express this moment. So instead, he kissed the demon again, long and slow. Then he took him by the hand and brought him into his bedroom, shutting the door carefully.
Godric pulled Blake in for a kiss, holding him there for a long, long time. Slowly, his fingers worked the buttons on the demon's shirt, revealing his chest inch by inch. He couldn't say how he felt, so he would show it. Slow, steady, long and passionate- he would show Blake.
---
When Ric had first seen his present Blake hadn't known what to expect. Now he was thrilled at the reaction. Returning the kiss the demon had expected them to just stand there and hug but clearly Ric had other ideas. Blake followed him into the bedroom, heart beating just that ltitle bit faster in anticipation. Sure enough Godric kissed him again, more loving than anything else Blake had ever experienced.
Gradually Blake placed a hand on the vampire's cheek then stroked it around to his neck, deepening the kiss as Ric started to undress him. Blake understood. This was better than words this was demonstrating. After a moment though Blake pulled away. "Wait..." he said, "wait," before he walked over to the still-curtained window. The drapes were thrown open and sunlight was cast over the bed which had never before seen daylight. Brilliant. Turning back to Godric with a smile Blake quickly resumed the kiss where he'd left off, beginning to unpop the buttons from the vampire's shirt. Chest like that should not be covered up.
---
Wait? Blake was making him wait? That was a first. Confused, the vampire watched as Blake walked away from him, throwing open the deep blue curtains. Brilliant sunlight poured into the small room, washing it in bright colors. Everything did look different in sunlight. A smile spread over Godric's face as Blake came back to him, planting another kiss on his lips. He helped Blake undress him, feeling totally exposed in the bright light but ignoring the urge to cover up.
As the demon's hands reached his belt, Godric paused a moment, touching his hands. He looked into the soft, sweet brown eyes, his own both apprehensive and shy. "I've never made love in sunlight before," he whispered. "And I'm... I'm glad it's you." Pulling Blake toward the bed, Godric sat himself onto it, leaning back to give the demon access again to the task he'd started.
---
Blake returned that gaze, a smile in his eyes before he kissed Ric's nose softly. "So am I."
The sun felt warmer somehow seeing Ric beneath him. It was like looking at a different man in this light. Still beautiful but more... real than Blake had ever seen him. The demon began shrugging off his shirt, discarding it quickly before he made precise, swift work of his trousers. Once their bodies were exposed Blake leant down on him as he kissed the vampire slowly. This was the first time that Ric's skin had had a warm tinge to it. It was slight but noticeable, and it made Blake moan that extra bit into Ric's mouth. They could spend all day doing just this, kissing in the rays and making use of their time together and Blake wouldn't mind. So long as he had Godric he would never mind anything.
