Technically, Ava and Maggie had already met, but it was at the wedding, and Ava and Charlie weren't completely themselves then. Now they were back to 'normal', so it was a bit like starting over. He was scared about this meeting too. Maggie was the single most important part of Charlie's life, and if there was tension between her and Ava, it would be disastrous for him. He needed them to get along. Plus, with Davia not around at the moment, Charlie wanted Maggie to feel connected to another woman at school. It was important for her to have someone other than him to bond with, since she couldn't see her mother every day.
Maggie came hopping (literally) into Charlie's bedroom to find her uncle with his arms wrapped around her new aunt. Maggie suddenly looked very shy, as she was around new people. She leaned back against the wall and stared wide eyed at the brunette.
Charlie let go of Ava and scooped up Maggie, holding her on his hip. "Maggie... you remember Ava." Maggie nodded, still staring. "Do you think maybe she could help you set the table? Katie will be over in a little while, and I think you and Ava should make the table look really nice for our guest." Maggie put her hand to Charlie's ear and whispered in it, "Can I wear a dress?" Charlie chuckled and nodded before whispering back, though both of their whispering was loud enough for Ava to hear. "Ava likes clothes a lot, why don't you ask her to help you pick out something pretty." Maggie glanced over at Ava and then wiggled out of Charlie's grasp.
She spoke in a meek voice, though Charlie was sure it would gain a great deal of confidence in an hour's time, because Maggie warmed up to new people quickly. "Ava, will you help me find a pretty dress?" Charlie stepped aside then, happy when he saw Maggie tentatively take hold of Ava's hand. "I'll be in the kitchen if you guys need me."
