Charlie was still haunted with guilt. Granted, he didn't fall off the wagon completely. He didn't have sex with someone, didn't even kiss anyone, but his chat with Meike had crossed the line... and then there was the gift he'd given Ava. He had to admit, the thought of her using that vibrator to get off... something he gave her... it was a major turn on. So just like any good Catholic boy, he was in need of repentance tonight.
He arrived at the dance with Davia on his arm. She looked stunning, as always, and he didn't look so bad himself. Actually, he looked fucking amazing, but that was normal for Charlie. Tonight was an excuse to look a little sexier than normal. But that wasn't his main reason for attending. Davia loved to dance, and Charlie loved to watch her. He liked watching more than joining, though he did promise her he'd twirl her around the floor tonight. But not just yet. First, Charlie had to give her part of her Christmas present.
The students and staff had been dancing for a good hour to a variety of tunes spun by the DJ. The songs were mostly fast and of the pop chart variety. Charlie didn't care for the selection. It was time to change that, also time to bring a live element into play.
Fibbing to Davia, by telling her that he suspected someone was about to spike the punch, Charlie slipped away from his date, giving her a kiss on the cheek as he did. He jogged down the hall to where he had stashed his guitar and returned to the dance.
Charlie tapped the DJ on the shoulder, "Take five... I'll take over." The DJ spotted the guitar slung behind Charlie's back and grinned. "Sure, dude. Slay 'em." With that, the man left, and Charlie killed the music. He grabbed the mic a second later. "Um... sorry about that. I promise to return you all to that crap music shortly. But, first, indulge me." Charlie's eyes scanned through the crowd to find Davia. "Baby, this is for you."
He pulled the guitar around to his abdomen and quickly cleared his throat. He was actually nervous, and Charlie was never nervous when performing in front of a crowd. Most of his music wasn't so close to his heart, and he'd never before written a love song for a woman he actually loved.
Finally, he took a breath and began to play and sing.
"I sit and wait Does an angel contemplate my fate And do they know The places where we go When we're grey an old 'Cause I have been told That salvation lets their wings unfold So when I'm lying in my bed Thoughts running through my head And I feel the love is dead I'm loving angels instead
And through it all she offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me When I come to call she won't forsake me I'm loving angels instead
When I'm feeling weak And my pain walks down a one way street I look above And I know I'll always be blessed with love And as the feeling grows She breathes flesh to my bones And when love is dead I'm loving angels instead
And through it all she offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong And down the waterfall Wherever it may take me I know that life won't break me When I come to call she won't forsake me I'm loving angels instead"
Charlie kept his eyes closed for a good portion of the song. It helped calm his nerves. He hoped Davia loved the song. The only other person to hear it was Ava, and she seemed to like it. But the song wasn't for Ava, wasn't about her either, it was about the woman Charlie loved... the only woman he'd ever loved. He opened his eyes and looked to Davia again, "Merry Christmas, Angel."
