One moment Duncan was selecting the very last oatmeal raisin cookie, and the next a pregnant woman had him in an embrace. It took all of his supernaturally enhanced reflexes to not drop the cookie. He became very still while Ciri wrapped his arms around him, looking down at her with one arched eyebrow.
Relief made the tension pour out of his shoulders when she explained that she'd mistaken him for someone else; her husband, in fact. "Hullo..and thank you," he replied, to her compliment on his eyes. "And darlin', I'm so happy you decided to explain yourself." He wrapped the cookie delicately after she'd let him go. "Not sure how I'd react to a pregnant woman snatching me up in a hug and declaring me her 'hubby.' "
It was then he remembered her name and linked the brief electronic introduction they'd shared to this present moment. "Ciri, I'm Duncan. We've met, sort of." He offered her his right hand, which was cookie-free. "I'd love to have lunch with you; I prefer company for meals. I was just going to get some coffee."
