"I just.. needed some time to clear my head." The run hadn't done much good for that, but it was her argument with Ed that kept her away from Starbuck for longer than she would've cared for. If it hadn't been for that, she probably would've talked to Starbuck last night after she cooled down.
There was so much that he didn't know about her family that she wondered if she could ever share it with him. It was difficult for her to talk about them since they reserved no place in her heart anymore. It brought back horrible memories to even make any references to them. But Ed she still obviously cared about. Even though he was the only family she cared for, he still didn't know her as well as he thought. And clearly, he was wrong about this whole trust thing. Starbuck had certainly earned her trust and he had never done anything to make her doubt him.
"I don't know," she said, shrugging slightly. "Maybe I shouldn't give him so much credit, but I can't imagine what I would've turned out like without him." It horrified her to think that she could've possibly turned out like her brown-nosing brother Will.. just a puppet for their parents to control. And sure, Kim was tough on the outside, and certainly guarded, but she definitely had her moments of vulnerability. She just kept those moments hidden from everyone. Now, though.. now was one of those times that her vulnerability might just start to show through to Starbuck. She didn't just want him, she needed him. He was good for her and she couldn't imagine ever getting bored with him.
Kim just nodded slightly at his response, knowing that Ed was probably a dick to him again. She hated that he couldn't seem to understand just how happy Starbuck was making her and how good of a person he was. Ed was basically forcing her to choose between the two of them, but she wouldn't. She refused to lose either of the men she cared about the most in her life. "I'm sorry he's such an asshole to you. You shouldn't ever have to put up with his bullshit."
