Even if he didn't care about his car's condition, she did. She had promised Frankie she wouldn't total it. Hell, she had even promised him when he originally mentioned that she could borrow it whenever. It wasn't about the car itself, really. It was more about the promises she had made and keeping them. She didn't go back on promises she made to people she cared about.
When he started to pull back, she let go of him and stared up at his face. Her heart was still beating so fast that it felt like it might jump out of her chest. She was relieved to see him again, but she was still so nervous about having to talk to him. Kim frowned as she saw the splints on his fingers and felt a pang of guilt go through her.
"I get that you were pissed," she began, quietly. "But he's not a horrible brother." Starbuck didn't know how much of a good influence Ed had been on Kim. Ed was the one that taught her not to be ashamed of what she was, to embrace it, to be confident and to stand up for herself. Sure, he could be a dick sometimes, but everything he had done for her more than made up for that.
At his question, she just nodded slightly and walked through the door. Her throat still felt dry and her heart beat hadn't calmed down at all. It scared her to feel like this and it scared her even more to realize just how strongly she felt about Starbuck.
