Who: Sydni and Mikhail
What: A proposal
When: Morning
Where: California
Never in his years had he thought this day would come. Should he have thought it would, he never imagined it would be this difficult. Mikhail was pacing within his room early morning on the final day of holiday in California. He felt nervous above everything else, which was a strange emotion to realize for he rarely got this anxious. Usually he was calm, collected. Cool. But the werewolf could have sworn his hands had been shaking. Shoving them into his pockets he paced several more circles before exiting the room and heading down for breakfast. There was little talking from his side as he ate, content to not talk.
"Sydni," he started after he had put his plate in the sink, rinsing it off quickly. "When take Molly on walk?" he wanted to know. He felt it was a daily thing they did, it would be good. Perfect, even. The scenery around here was quite nice and Sydni loved her dog; he had grown attached to the pooch, too. This was it, he wasn't going to wait any longer than necessary. Mikhail was only patient for so long, after all. "Would like go soon?"
Sydni was busy helping her mother make a big breakfast for the family, so she was unaware of how nervous Mikhail was. If she had been, she would have been concerned. In any case, it was like a machine in the kitchen - everyone moved around to their stations at the perfect time. In short time, full breakfasts of eggs, toast, bacon, home fries, and even pancakes, were ready.
The brunette didn't notice her boyfriend's quietness because he generally was quiet, and she and her parents made quite enough chatter for everyone. Mikhail's questions after breakfast were cute. She thought it sweet that he wanted their alone time. While Molly had already been out, it was time for some exercise. She would have enjoyed the walks much more in Boston, but it was freezing there. Here, she'd be able to really enjoy Mikhail's company without thinking about the freezing cold.
"After the dishes?" she smiled. Once they were all rinsed and put away in the dishwasher, she grabbed Molly's leash. "Ready?"
Smirking softly, Mikhail came up beside Sydni. "No dish," he said, but began to help her put it all away and clean it on up. Following toward the door, while Sydni got the pup ready he opened the door as they approached and finally left the building. It was pretty nice outside, though still bizarre to Mikhail as he had lived in snow and ice for years. Still, he had to admit a relief from the cold was welcome.
"Molly. Want play fetch?" he asked while pulling a ball out of his pocket. He had caught on to this friendly-dog-playing thing. It was enjoyable. Throwing the ball, quite a distance, he said, "Go get," with a smile. Then he turned his face toward Sydni.
"Did sleep well?"
Sydni had to grin at Mikhail's protests. The dishes had to be done and she wouldn't let her mother do them, which she would if she left them there.
It still made her blush when Mikhail held the door for her. It was so sweet. And chivalrous. "Thank you," she offered softly like she did every time.
When Mikhail took the ball out, Sydni knelt and unhooked Molly's collar. "You be good. Come right back," she instructed. She didn't like letting Moll off-leash, but there was no other way to play ball.
The question surprised the brunette, but she smiled. "I did. You?" It seemed like random chatter, but then, Mikhail's attentiveness was really quite touching.
Watching Molly out of the corner of his eye, Mikhail kept his attention upon Sydni. "Sleep good, thanks." He smiled and kissed her forehead, waving a hand toward Molly as she came bounding back. Kneeling, he took the ball from her mouth and threw it again. Yet in place of getting up he turned and looked up at Sydni. He thought he was either being smooth or really tacky. Well, it didn't matter. He was here now.
Taking a box from his pocket with his right hand, the left reached up and took one of Sydni's own. With a smile, marred by his scar, he let out a slow, nervous breath. "Sydni," he started.
Sydni closed her eyes and smiled softly when Mikhail kissed her forehead. She thought it was the most perfect kiss because it was so tender without being imperatively romantic. Quickly, she stole a kiss from him, and then he knelt to get the ball for Molly. She followed the path of the ball, but then he took her hand and she looked down at him.
For a moment, her brain stopped. He wasn't... He was. Oh my God, he was... Completely shocked, she stood staring at him with a hand to her mouth as he spoke.
The look on her face was priceless and beautiful. Mikhail took a picture in his mind as he flicked open the box in his right hand with his thumb before turning her hand over and gently placing the box in it, fingers just barely holding it in place. His heart was hammering but this felt like the most right choice he had ever made in his life.
"Sydni Wilson...Will you marry me?" He made sure to have the best English possible just for this moment, so his words were even slower than usual. But it was clear as crystal.
It probably was priceless. They might even have to laugh about it later. Sydni would never have described it as a beautiful look, but that only showed all the more how perfect Mikhail was.
For a very brief second, not even long enough to register on her face, Sydni thought "This is too soon!" But that was entirely swallowed in the rush of sheer joy that she felt. Pulling him up so she could practically throw herself at him as she hugged him, she cried out, "YES!" and broke into tears and laughter as she kissed. Molly had returned with the ball and was busy barking and bouncing as she tried to ascertain what the fuss was about.
Wrapping his arms around Sydni, Mikhail returned her kiss. He was so glad she had not said "this is too soon" or "no." Kissing her for a long, perfect moment, he hugged her tight. What was there to say now? Nothing could top this moment today. Of course they would tell her parents, and then they would go back to Boston and tell everyone there.
But Mikhail just wanted to hug Sydni while his brain caught up with himself. He knew what he had done, but it still hit like a rock.
Nothing felt more perfect in that moment than being held by Mikhail or kissing him. She never wanted to let him go. And she wanted to do something wild and crazy because she felt totally invincible. Love must do that to people.
"We have to tell my parents," she laughed, not really making any move to let him go to follow through with that statement. She also needed to put on the ring, but it was still held tightly in her hand.
Laughing back, Mikhail nodded. Slowly he managed to make himself let go of her, moving his hands to her own. Gently he urged Sydni to put the ring on, helping to slip the modest diamond ring onto her finger. "Finish walk," he whispered lightly. They had to shake off their sudden excitement before they went running back to Mother and Father with the news. Besides, Molly probably wanted to play. Mikhail would throw the ball in a moment, only once Sydni let him go, however.
Sydni reluctantly let him go, watching as he helped her slip on the beautiful ring. His whipser seemed like a secret between the two of them and she smiled slightly, nodding. It's a good thing Mikhail had his head on straight, remembering to give them time to calm down before returning home. Sydni knelt and rubbed Molly's head, placing a kiss on her snout. She slipped her hand in Mikhail's and and watched as he played with Molly. She didn't think she had any more room to be any happier!
