The fact that she stood up to him impressed him. The fact that she spoke back to him did as well. Though the Rin Tin Tin comment was lost on him, since he didn't watch TV. Still, he knew enough to know when he was being insulted. The first insult got his veins bulging and his fists clenched. But then she kept on, and all he did was stand there, breathing through his nose, the breaths coming heavier and heavier.
He let her have her say, knowing it all made sense on some far off human level, but not caring in the least. He hadn't slept in five days because he was watching over them, and this was the thanks he got. Back talk. And then she committed the cardinal sin. She called him a dog.
He didn't remember what happened next. Didn't remember shifting, or how he wound up across the room. He didn't know if he hit her, or if he just pinned her, or what was happening. What he did know was that his blackout ended with two very cold arms in his hands, as he stared down at a very frightened face that was quickly turning to anger. And in the back of his mind he could hear words echoing as if he'd just spoken them, saying "Call me a dog again and I'll show you why no one fucks with an Alpha Wolf."
