"You're coming for Thanksgiving."
"Sid," Mac sighed.
"I mean it Mac," Sid said firmly. "You've been sulking for a month."
Mac put down his pen and stared across his desk at the medical examiner. "I have not been sulking," he said stiffly.
"Of course you haven't," Sid agreed easily. "You've been a wonderful, joyful person to be around." He smiled when Mac glared at him and stood. "Protest as much as you want. Dinner is at five," he informed him and walked out.
Mac stared at the empty door for several seconds before forcing his attention back to the pile of papers on his desk. He wasn't sulking, he thought darkly as he scrawled his signature across the bottom of the top page. His first true relationship since he'd lost Claire had fallen apart, of course he was allowed to be unhappy about it, but he wasn't sulking. Not at all. He was a Marine and Marines didn't sulk.
Mac sighed, tossed his pen down, and picked up the phone. "I'll bring the potatoes," he said and hung up before Sid could answer. He wasn't sulking, but he could at least have a good Thanksgiving dinner.

"What are you doing here?" Don asked, walking up behind Mac.
"I work here," Mac reminded him dryly.
"It's Thanksgiving. You're off to enjoy a delicious dinner with Sid and Hawkes while the rest of us minions are stuck here," Don grinned.
Mac frowned at him. "How did you know?"
"Stella."
"Should have known," Mac sighed.
"You're not going to get out of it," Don warned him.
"I know," Mac told him. He hadn't expected to, not really. "What do you have?" he asked, gesturing toward the foil wrapped package.
"Brownies. Triple chocolate with caramel sauce," Don grinned. "My specialty." He laughed when Mac looked at him in disbelief. "Okay, it's my mother's specialty. I told her that I had to work and she made an extra batch for the potluck."
"Potluck?" Mac asked in confusion.
"Don! There you are!" Danny said as he slammed the door open. He grabbed the detective's arm and started to pull him inside. "We're waiting for you. Stella brought the turkey, Jennifer brought the salad and Lindsay brought the cranberries and rolls. All we need now is you with dessert."
"What did you bring?" Mac asked in amusement, somehow not surprised at his team's plans.
Danny grinned at him. "The champagne. Sheldon called. He said to tell you that they're waiting and Sid will be very upset if his hard work is ruined because you're late."
Mac rolled his eyes and waved. "Happy Thanksgiving," he told the two men as the door closed behind them. His fingers clenched around the dish he was holding and he squared his shoulders as he walked away from the lab. If Sid made dinner, it was bound to be good. It was the rest of the night that had him worried.

"More champagne Mac?" Sid asked.
"You're off tomorrow," Sheldon reminded him when he hesitated. Mac nodded and, after another moment's hesitation, held out his glass.
"If I didn't know better, I'd think you were trying to get me drunk," he teased them lightly.
"Not drunk," Sid answered. "Just tipsy."
Mac's eyes widened. "You are not."
Sid leaned forward, watching Mac intently. "You know what we want."
Mac took a sip of the drink. "I do," he said easily.
"You want it too," Sheldon spoke up.
"I do?" Mac asked in surprise.
"You wouldn't be here if you didn't," Sid agreed. "You're a smart man Mac, you knew exactly what you were getting into."
Mac nodded. "You're right."
"I didn't think you'd admit it so easily," Sheldon said, his look at Sid giving away that the older man had thought that Mac would.
"I knew. I almost didn't come," Mac shrugged. "Stella, Lindsay, Danny, Don and Detective Angell are having a Thanksgiving celebration too."
"At the lab when night shift takes over," Sheldon said.
Mac nodded again. "I could have stayed but ..." he trailed off and shrugged. "I wanted to be here."
Sid reached out and took his hand. "We're glad you came," he said simply.
Mac smiled at them both and relaxed. For the first time since he and Peyton had broken up, he felt at ease.

Mac walked through the lab, enjoying the quiet. It seemed that everyone truly was out shopping
He looked into the cafeteria and winced. Food seemed to have been randomly shoved to the ground and could see a woman's shoe and a tie tossed in opposite corners.
Spotting the man stumbling down the corridor, he asked, "What the hell happened in here?"
"Coffee," Danny muttered. He poured a cup and only when he had downed half of it did he turn to face Mac. "We had dinner. How'd things go at Sid's?"
"Very good," Mac answered. "Dinner? It looks like a tornado hit the tables."
Danny looked over at the tables. "Or Stella, Lindsay and Don," he whispered to himself, smirking.
"What?" Mac questioned. He picked up a sock and shook his head.
"Nothing," Danny said quickly.
"Please tell me that you weren't drinking on the job," Mac requested.
"Course not," Danny said indignantly, downing the rest of his coffee and pouring another cup. "We had dinner here and took the champagne back to my place so we wouldn't get in night shift's way."
Mac started to reach for another discarded piece of clothing before he realized what it was and decided that the culprits could clean it up themselves. It seemed that they really had all had a good Thanksgiving.
End.
