Ginny was trying really hard to be happy that the Harpies had won on Friday. She knew that ultimately, it was best for everyone and that it wasn't her teammates who had suspended her and that they had just done their jobs in her absence. It was just that small piece of her that had wished that she had been missed. That, without her chasing, the idiots in charge who had been responsible for her suspension would realize they needed her.
The press from her visit to St. Mungo's had been positive. It had also been fun getting to meet some of her younger fans, and it was nice to know she'd cheered up some sick kids. But it hadn't had the effect she was really hoping for which was a public rallying. Maybe if the suspension had been longer. Or if she had done more. But ulterior motives sort of cheapened the charity of it and really she was just happy to be back to work.
She had arrived early, eager to be back and not wanting to piss anyone off too soon. She'd gotten changed into her practice robes and was out on the field before most of the team had even arrived at the locker rooms. It felt great just to be back on the pitch, if she was being honest. Being on a broom required focus and a clear mind. She couldn't worry about her brother snogging her boyfriend's sister. Or that that sister might fancy her brother. Or whatever bollocks the crown was spouting off about the protesters. She could only think about her grip on the broom, and the wind in her hair. It forced her to push everything else aside.
By the time Gwen called for the team to gather for the day's game plan, she was in much better spirits. She went to the huddle and her congratulations to her teammates was genuine and everything. But when she caught sight of the new player that was being introduced, Ginny's face paled and all of that calm she'd built up slipped right away.
What in the hell was Alicia Spinnet doing here? Wasn't she supposed to be off somewhere in another country? Or running a circle of hell or something? What was she doing back in England? Let alone in Holyhead. There was a ringing in her ears that was drowning out Gwen's announcement and the welcoming sounds from her teammates.
The practice went by in a blur and Ginny had taken more than one bludger by the end of it. No matter what she did, she couldn't get herself to forget about Alicia and just focus on the game. Because it wasn't really Alicia she was thinking about. It was George. And all of the nights that she'd spent sitting with him, reassuring him that everything was going to be okay. It was the look on his face for months after Alicia disappeared. Six years later and Ginny was never going to forget that kind of pain this woman had put her brother through.
Ginny attempted to book it to the locker room, determined not to have a confrontation with her here. Not after what had just happened She needed to be a team player and she was going to have to figure out a way to make this work, but that wasn't going to happen right now. She knew herself and her temper well enough to know that she had to avoid even looking at Alicia if she could. At least until she could come up with a game plan. But then Gwen asked her to hang back for a minute to chat about not getting arrested again and getting her shite together on the pitch and blahblahblah, and by the time she got to the locker room, the rest of the team had mostly filtered out.
"Buggering fecking feck!" She mumbled as she gave her locker a good kick and slumped down on the bench beside it to take a few deep breaths. She needed just a few minutes to cool off before she tried apparating anywhere.
