Characters: Lucy and Gail
Setting: Saturday afternoon
Summary: cousins need to talk
Rating: PG-13
Status: in progress
It wasn't the first time the cousins had argued - both girls were strong-willed in their own ways - but it was perhaps the longest they hadn't spoken to each other. Lucy missed Abigail, but she also didn't want to be talked out of dating Emrys, and she knew there was no way Gail was going to just leave that be. Even if she meant to, Lucy knew it would come out. Abigail had a disapproving glance that could wither a whomping willow. And so, for the past few weeks, she had moved chairs in class, sat with her friends, or acquaintances, or even alone - anything to keep away from the inevitable. But inevitable it was. Sooner or later, they were going to talk. It was an effort for both of them, and somebody was going to crack.
It was Saturday, and Lucy was on her way to the owlery to send a letter to her parents. They had approved her staying at the castle over Easter, as she had known they would - anything she requested for her studies, realistic or otherwise, was always granted (she had once asked for a new silk bedspread on the grounds that it would help her concentrate if she could look forward to going to bed after studying). Now she was writing to thank them and answer their usual questions about how school was, with a few extra enquiring after the Carrows' health and so on. She was thinking about the contents of the letter when she saw coming towards her a familiar figure. When Abigail was close enough to recognise, Lucy's mouth twitched in an almost smile.
"My parents were asking after you," she said, neutrally.
