Cece wished she could have asked someone for advice before she went out to meet Declan for their talk. She felt as if she was floundering around in a dark sea of uncertainty and some reassurance or a different perspective would have been helpful. But pride and the fear of humiliation stopped her from saying anything, even to Penny, especially as she was reluctant to let her friends know just what had happened to put her and Declan at odds. However, depending on how this conversation went, Cece knew she might just end up confiding in Penny anyway.
Well-wrapped against the late afternoon chill, she walked briskly towards the lake, her mouth set in a firm line. After all the arguments, she was ticked off with both Declan and Hugo. Really, it wasn't as if she was some bone to scrap over! Yet she was also torn between her feelings for both of them, especially now she knew Declan's accusation that Hugo liked her was correct. Cece sighed, her breath puffing out in a white cloud. Why did love have to be so complicated?
Arriving at the lake shore, she frowned and folded her arms. Once again she had arrived first and for some reason that miffed her more. If she was Molly Carmichael, Declan would likely be waiting ten minutes before the appointed time! Cece's frown deepened. It was so much easier to concentrate her anger on Carmichael as the person responsible for all this mess from the start, whose continual harassment simply told Cece that the Ravenclaw was trying to make her look bad in Declan's eyes.
