Characters: Michael Corner [open or narrative]
Setting: Sunday afternoon, courtyard
Rating: GP for now
Setting: Michael is dealing with the aftermath of Dark Arts and trying to come up with a plan.
Michael liked the cold. There was something about the winter that was invigorating. Maybe it was the hidden romantic side of him, with the thought that after months of darkness and cold, spring would come. More likely was the fact that it gave him plenty of space to think as most students preferred to stay tucked away in the warm castle. But Michael was content to throw on his cloak and head out into the courtyard to mess around with a few spells. Dark Arts class on Friday had bothered him - but not in the way most everyone else was upset with it. Of course he thought that anyone who was unkind to animals were bastards in his book, but that part aside it was more the looks he received from Amycus Carrow, which at least were less unnerving than the ones from Alecto. He had joked about it, but Michael was sure that given an opportunity she might well try to take advantage of him. And if that wasn't bad enough, it was his own mental approach to the lesson at hand that came as a surprise. Yes, the cruciatus curse was an unforgiveable. Or rather it had been because surely now it was just par for the course. If they were practicing on animals, it was only a matter of time before the animals got bigger and became other students. And someone was going to turn a crucio on him, he wanted to be able to give as good as he got. Michael hadn't been lying or exaggerating when he told Anthony that he was going to cross the line and not look back. But just because he was willing and able to do something didn't mean everyone else should or even that other student's pets should pay the price. So, today's self-lesson was simple and seemingly relevant to what the sixth years were going over in Transfiguration - turn other objects into animals. No, it wouldn't be possible to save everyone's pets at the school, but if he could get a few right, he might be able to teach others to make it work. And if in the process he created something he was more willing to practice on, well, that was fine by him too. |
