Padma had told Anthony she’d meet him twenty minutes after class, figuring that would give her enough time to take her flitterbloom back in her room, hum it to sleep, and transform herself into her sister before she headed to the pitch. Becoming Parvati wasn’t hard to do; she’d done it several times before, over the years, and had it down to a routine. She headed into a washroom on the second floor, made sure it was otherwise empty, and set about getting ready. First, she simply charmed her scarf and tie Gryffindor red and gold. Next, a dab of Sleek-Eazy to smooth her plait. (She thought, not for the first time, that she probably should bother to do that every day—it really wasn’t a lot of effort, and she had to admit the effect was nice.) She pinned in earrings and slipped two bracelets onto her wrist; Parvati wouldn’t be Parvati if she didn’t gleam and jingle a bit. Lastly, blush, mascara, and bubble-gum pink lip gloss. There. She examined herself in the mirror. To anyone else, the illusion was probably perfect. They’d even been known to fool their own parents, when they’d wanted to. But Padma could only see the things that set her apart from her sister. Her eyebrows needed shaping, her nails needed filing; there was a tiny scar on her neck, from a bug bite she’d scratched until it got infected, despite her mother’s nagging. But this would do, for her plans today. Maybe it was overkill anyway, maybe she was just being paranoid to think anyone would care which Patil sister was meeting up with Anthony. But she was nothing if not cautious, and she figured maybe it was good practice, in case they had more important reasons to have to borrow each other’s identities in the coming months. She smoothed her hair one more time and headed out into the hallway, taking care to put a little more bounce in her walk than usual. She flashed a smile at two first-year Gryffindors who rounded the corner, and hoped she wouldn’t run into anyone she (or Parvati) actually knew, before she could meet up with Anthony. |
