“Um…a lift home would be brilliant, actually. I hadn’t driven tonight anyway…but, really, I can take a cab, it’s not a big deal.” He’d already done so much, gone above and beyond, and surely he had better places to be.
Cal hadn’t meant to attack or chase her so bluntly off a subject, but this really was all a bit too much for him. He didn’t have any idea what was going on in his own brain and he wasn’t really a fan of admitting that out loud. He nodded, a silent thanks for her offer to talk, and filed it away for further use, just in case. He’d never really been the type to spill his guts, but talking to Juniper had always been so easy. She’d never made him feel like she was judging him or assuming the worst, she’d been the first person in his life to ever do that for him. Cal was just glad she wasn’t the type to berate him, to criticize this latest fall of the wagon or demand he give up the name of whomever was supplying him with his drugs – any of that and he probably would have been running for the door. A sad little smile tugged at the corner of his lips, “I’m glad. I always fucking wondered if it was helping, I didn’t know what the hell else to do.” It had seemed like such a little bit of nothing at the time; she’d just gone through what sounded like a fucking terrible night and all he could do was bring her some water, maybe a little aspirin and crawl into bed next to her. It wasn’t as if he had any clue what the whole transformation process was really like and Dom’s fucking staff hadn’t been that much of a help when he’d asked them what to take her. “Two of you still not talking, then?” He’d hoped, if nothing else, that the two girls would end up close again. He’d seen Eden since that night when everything had gone to shit, but she hadn’t really mentioned Juniper or Shannon all that much, she’d mainly just listened. “It’s late….maybe she’s out somewhere? I doubt she’d go out of her fucking way to ignore you.” It seemed horrible to want to add that, from what he’d heard, Shannon had ended up being such a dick to the girl that she could probably forgive Jun now – what she did wouldn’t seem so bad in hindsight.
