Tucker snorted softly at Briar's insistence that her banishment from her own family was temporary. Rumor was that she was she'd been a bastard child anyhow, so it was incredible to Tucker to imagine that she'd ever been in his will in the first place. Likely, he'd jumped at the excuse to get rid of an illegitimate heir.
The corner of his mouth pulled up a bit as she responded to him. She didn't look terribly fazed, but he could tell that he was getting to her, if only by how desperate she sounded to try to get him back for his jabs. And trying to do it by bragging about her thievery, no less. "Mm, yes, feet and wings. Very impressive," he said boredly. It was a pity, really. Had she been a more acceptable sort of person, he might have enjoyed talking about the trials and tribulations of shifting into multiple forms with her. "But money isn't the same as clout, unfortunately, is it? Money can by you some things, certainly. But in my experience -- and yours, I'm sure -- power opens far more doors. Isn't that how you put it before? Money and a name?"
