Cassius made a full stop at that comment. He certainly hadn't expected the woman to have remarked on the craftsmanship of his crime of all things. But if nothing else, at least he knew now that he hadn't been caught by someone who wanted to bring him to justice. Or at least that didn't appear to be the case. He buried the head of the shovel in the dirt and stepped outside the pit, finally turning to look at the stranger.
He took a few steps back to maintain the same distance from the pit that she had taken from him just moments before. He gestured with one hand to the shovel, like he'd just pulled out a chair for her at a dinner table. "If you would please show me how it's meant to be done." His voice was cautious, but carried a certain practiced politeness. "I've never had the benefit of a tutor."
