"You'd be surprised." Briar muttered with the air of a tired old grievance before discarding the expression like a dirty tissue. No time for that. New start. Even if this country was as questionable when it came to the law as her own, this village in particular was so far removed that surely it wouldn't affect her here.
Her head ducked in thanks at the compliment, though that bit of wisdom had actually been shared by an older thief that should have died ten years earlier than he did if not for the miraculous Clovienne medical system. It was said in reference to a window she was pretty sure she couldn't climb up to. But he was right, she had managed it, though her fingers were forever rougher and decorated with tiny scars from the ordeal.
Still. The thought on the stranger's side was a well meaning one.
The religious misdirection had worked, she could tell. It was a relief, a religious mask was one she had never worn, never had the need for it. Truthfully, she hadn't prepared for coming here, that was becoming clearer by the day. That was alright, a new story was being weaved in her head thanks to this encounter, and it would serve her well.
Briar scoffed at that though, unable to stop herself, "I think people can muck up anything." She glanced back towards the center of the village proper, where she was expected to be. Instead of the outskirts, and the fact that she wasn't resentful of that knowledge was a novel feeling to her.
A hand wrested its way free of her blanket, "I'm at the Inn, if you want to escort me back?" A casual offer, meant to sound disarming and as if she had nothing to hide. No innuendo in sight or hearing because she wasn't bold enough to seduce the law in a new area, at least not at the moment. Give her a few months of boredom.
