there's a saying old, says that love is blind
Who: Tori Spencer and Calvin Llewellyn
What: Locating the cat and talking about orchids
When: Friday morning
Where: Rosier manor
Status: Ongoing
Despite meeting Lord Belmont's rather interesting valet the day earlier, most of her time spent with the individuals from Belmont manor had been rather miserable. Tucker was deplorable and his cousin was a bitch. The way he'd come for Llewellyn was highly uncalled for. Never being one to just simply keep her mouth shut, Tori had defended the butler, who was truly excellent at his job. Tucker simply didn't like him because he was an Aurellian in high standing. Ridiculous.
That was as angry as she had allowed herself to get last night, relying instead on sarcasm and smirks for most of the dinner. Thank goodness it was four against two. At least they could all support each other. She'd noticed that Beau had retired early last night and Tori hadn't been very far behind him. As if she could blame him for not wanting to listen to that anymore.
On her way to her bedroom, she passed the master suite and heard voices from behind the cracked door. To Tori, that was like dangling raw meat in front of a dog. She's couldn't not stop to listen. The conversation was very curious and yet heartfelt. Beau sounded completely drained, which broke Tori's heart a bit. Llewellyn sounded sympathetic. Their conversation was tinged with an awkwardness that reminded Tori of the halting conversations Benjamin had had with her back when he was just Arthur's friend, before he'd tried to court her. Tori kept waiting for Beau and his butler to kiss or something, and was a bit disappointed when they didn't. When it seemed like Llewellyn was about to leave, Tori high-tailed it down the hallway to her bedroom, not wanting to get caught at the door.
The next morning, she was feeling refreshed and hoping that power would be restored to Belmont manor so that their unwelcome guests could leave as soon as possible. Except Julius. Tori found that she might not mind if he stayed. As she walked through the manor peeking into rooms, she half expected to find him snooping through a bureau.
Something curious had been said at dinner about some of Beau's orchids. Apparently they had mysteriously disappeared and very similar ones had appeared at Belmont. Only an idiot wouldn't put two and two together on that. Of course, a gentleman did not accuse another gentleman of stealing his orchids. That was impolite. What Beau needed was proof. Tori decided that if she put in a little bit of detective work, she might be able to find that proof. Her work was cut out for her.
The first person she wanted to locate and question was Llewellyn, to see what he knew about the missing orchids, thus why she was checking every room for him. Tori found him in the parlor in a rather undignified position: on his hands and knees on the floor, looking under a sofa. She cocked her head to the side and tried to bite back her amused smile.
"Have you lost something, Mr. Llewellyn?" she asked.
