Court sat back in his chair, his eyes focused on the horizon, moving along with his internal analysis, but his ear was welded to Viola’s words. He nodded, “Still a frightening amount of that drug in the hands of the Roans. They could counter-act Fade in members with powerful Gifts or enhance people who’ve managed to avoid the census.” He lips pursed in a grimace he pushed away from the rabbit hole those thoughts were sure to be.
He looked back over at Viola, any desire to argue for argument’s sake gone. “If they had used explosives to blow the safe, believe me, there would have been scorching or other damage that you wouldn’t have missed. It’s not subtle. That means someone used a Gift to do it. But things like enhanced strength or other Gifts that could bust a steel safe are practically impossible to hide. You’d know if Llewellyn had a Gift like that. If he was part of this, then he definitely had help.” He shook his head, “If they are closing the investigation now, they are either very foolish or someone high up just wants this to go away, meaning that person is foolish.”
Something passed before Court’s mind’s eye and he looked to the woman he’d hoped to have a romantic relationship with. Certainly not going to happen now. “Do you have any more of it? Ellevra, I mean. If the Roans have this stockpile, you should hide a couple pills away for you and Beau, just in case.”
