She could feel Morrie's scowl burning into the side of her face and pointedly ignored it, deliberately keeping her focus trained on Lachlan instead. Her heart gave an involuntary lurch at mention of the Palace - Luke - and she felt a surge of irritation for it. "So rather than suspect us, they'll suspect the Palace... seems a hard blow for that establishment and its employees, doesn't it?" Her voice betrayed nothing of her emotional response; rather, it was the calculated and reasonable objection of a fellow business proprietor.
"With the tax in place, the Cloves are some of their highest-paying patrons. Before we knew better, many of us were quick to blame the Turning Festival when we became ill... on top of jeopardizing their health, we could be harming their livelihoods."
