If the possibility of her channeling too much contempt in her voice when speaking as her father, too much bitterness seeping out of her when she pictured him, had occurred to her before then--well. She probably would have done it anyway. If Kelly noticed it though, he was nice enough or clever enough not to call her out on it. Better yet, he was amused, if she caught the expression correctly. Good.
"Someone's gotta lift me up, might as well be me." Briar snapped back, halfheartedly glaring at him with maybe a shade too much seriousness. Ah. Maybe she shouldn't have brought her father into her mind. She took him stopping her pinch in stride and leaned forward to rest her chin on his shoulder, blatantly delighting in his grin hinting at something akin to predatory for a moment, "There are only a few reasons I would be nice to you at this point Kelly, and most of them should worry you." In typical ornery fashion, she didn't comment on her pocketing something that wasn't hers. Anyway, she had given him two things, so he was still coming out ahead.
Briar almost said something about Aurellians getting cold easy, and then chastised herself for the urge. Wren was more like Briar than Bree, but she couldn't accidentally be Briar still. Sloppy.
"You know, not answering my question draws out exploratory process, Kelly." The warning sounded casual, her mind was already working on other compliments. Not because she particularly cared about his self-image, but because it was a fun challenge she couldn't resist. Her boots were pulled back on before she stepped off the bed, "I'm scratching the silver for now. That would elevate this from an emotional job to a more financial one, and I don't know how you can be trusted with that kind of thing yet. They don't like each other already though, the orchids are just the matchstick." The tone in her voice said the first part wasn't an insult, just a casual statement of fact. Briar wasn't the best at learning from her mistakes, but she did eventually, and getting caught again wasn't on her list of life's best moments. Not everyone was born a born liar with a roulette wheel for a moral compass like she was.
