The abruptness with which he responded actually threw her off enough that she nearly missed a step in her measured strides. Thankfully she was able to catch herself before it became too obvious, but her blush deepened all the same. Gods, but it felt like her face was constantly on fire around him! She told herself it was more because of the vulgarity of his language than anything else, because what other reason could there be?
Surely she wasn't upset by the notion of him... doing that... with other girls. She was used to it enough by now.
Still, the relevance of such a vow was not lost on her (especially coming from him), and the incredulity on her youthful countenance did not stem from a place of disdain so much as genuine surprise. Was he feeling so spiteful? She tried desperately to come up with some other reason why he might do this. Perhaps it was a joke, though the determined hardness in his voice certainly did not insinuate as much. "Don't be crass," she grumbled. There was a moment's silence. It would have been easy to laugh at him, to point out how impossible something like that might be for someone like him, to scoff and dismiss him out of hand. Instead she shrugged and gave him an uncertain sideways glance. "Two years is a long time."
